Just wanted an ordinary way of doing it but more than just soap and water if anyone knew of something.

Ecover products?

nearlythere · 08/05/2007 10:51

steam cleaner? works a treat on mine!

I only do wooden floors with a damp mop, I don't use cleaner on them - they get dusty rather than filthy if you don't wear shoes in the house

if it's the nice smell you like you can put a couple of drops of orange essential oil in that is nice

kitchen floors yes you can do with Ecover stuff

or just water and white vinegar, with lavender ess. oil or lemon?

I've just bought a mop (as recommended on another thread) from Lakeland that claims you just use water with - it's one of those microfibre/e-cloth types. Haven't used it yet though so don't know if it's any good! I think Tescos and other places sell them too....

Cappuccino · 08/05/2007 11:02

oh yes microfibre mops they are the business

Wills · 08/05/2007 11:27

I've just bought one of those full of solution all the time mops but I also have a couple of those microfibre clothes. Just hadn't occured to me. Hmmmmm. Also like the idea of making the room smell orangy or lemony. Mind you will I find my ds (11 months) licking the floor

I just used a dash of vinegar in the water, for stubborn stains you can add a dash of washing up liquid as well. Worked wonders on my tiles and kitchen surfaces, it was so effective I now use it all the time.

Don't know about the laminate floors, though, are they wood? Sorry for being dim but I don't live in the UK any more and am no longer au fait with the terminology. If they are wood, then just use water. We never use anything else on our parquet otherwise we risk ruining it. For nasty spills just clean locally with a dab of alcohol.

tea tree in water is good, anti bacterial as well, also lavendar or a mixture of both

JackieNo · 08/05/2007 11:45

I'd recommend a microfibre mop too, though generally use just with hot water, wrung out really well till hardly damp, for laminate, which doesn't really like getting wet. Wetter for tiles.

steam cleaner, but not on laminate
