Fanta : Could it cause extreme reactions?

DH took DS1 (4.8) to the cinema this afternoon, and he had sweets and a cup of orange Fanta.
As far as I'm aware, he's never had Fanta before...

They get home about 5.30 and by 7.30 DS1 is having the worst tantrum I've ever seen him have for no apparent reason - screaming uncontrollably; kicking; tears - he seemed completely 'out of it' and I actually found it quite scarey! It was very uncharacteristic.

Could this be a reaction to Fanta? I'm not aware of my DS having any reactions to additives, but then we try to avoid most anyway.

Anyone experienced anything similar?

The mixture of additives, high sugars, and other colourings can have this reaction. what sweets did he have?

Smarties turn ds (3) into the devil. I think it's the colouring as just chocolate doesn't do it. He goes completely hyper, jumping around, shouting (usually 'NOOOOO' ) and it all ends in a tantrum.

Jellly beans.... and I bet it wasn't a small bag...

ah yes. probably a combination of the jelly beans and the fanta.

DS had a similar 'bouncing off the walls' incident after a packet of Starburst (Opal Fruits to those old enough to remember the good old days !)
