Can we park a car on double yellow lines (display board showing no time restrictions) during school pickup and drop off timings in Surrey ?

If the display shows no times that you can park then you can't park on them at all

dementedpixie · 15/03/2018 22:12

What does the sign say?

dementedpixie · 15/03/2018 22:15

Waiting restrictionsindicated by yellow lines apply to the carriageway, pavement and verge. You may stop to load or unload (unless there are also loading restrictions as described below) or while passengers board or alight. Double yellow lines mean no waiting at any time, unless there are signs that specifically indicate seasonal restrictions. The times at which the restrictions apply for other road markings are shown on nearby plates or on entry signs to controlled parking zones. If no days are shown on the signs, the restrictions are in force every day including Sundays and Bank Holidays. White bay markings and upright signs (see below) indicate where parking is allowed.

LIZS · 15/03/2018 22:15

No. Is this a reverse?

MRSMYM · 17/03/2018 00:47

But if there is not much parking space outside school for few minutes 😭😭😭😭

Well if there isn't much parking and it's outside a school of course you can break the law Hmm. Those lines weren't put there to prevent people parking nope the council just think yellow brightens up the road!

whampiece · 17/03/2018 01:00

I'm really confused here.

I thought the whole point of double yellows was that you CANT park on them?!?

Have I missed hundreds of parking opportunities over the years Shock

INeedNewShoes · 17/03/2018 01:07

Of course you can't park on them Wham so no need to mourn all those missed parking opportunities!

mbwoy84 · 17/03/2018 09:18

Of course you can’t park on a double yellow line! 🙄

That’s what double yellow lines mean. NO parking at ANY time.

A single yellow line denotes parking restrictions, so read the signs nearby.

pictish · 17/03/2018 09:21

Err...no, you can’t. Why on earth would you imagine you can? Unless you’ve been living under a rock your whole life you know what double yellows mean. What are you on about?

bastardkitty · 17/03/2018 09:23

You can't be serious....

SoupDragon · 17/03/2018 09:26

Why do you want to park illegally right outside the school rather than walk from further away? Do you have health issues?

Ifailed · 17/03/2018 09:28

you can park on a double yellow line if you have a blue badge, but not near a junction and not if there are un/loading restrictions.

GoldenMalicious · 17/03/2018 09:31

Taken from the Highway Code:

Waiting restrictions indicated by yellow lines apply to the carriageway, pavement and verge. You may stop to load or unload (unless there are also loading restrictions as described below) or while passengers board or alight.

So my understanding is that you can pull over to let someone out, but you cannot park up and leave the car. That’s certainly the approach that I take - unless someone tells me I’m mistaken in my interpretation, that’s what I’ll continue to do.

NerrSnerr · 17/03/2018 09:37

Are you joking?

Just park further away and walk?

greatbigwho · 17/03/2018 09:43

Yup. Those lines are for everyone else, of COURSE you can park there!

Seriously? They're outside schools for safety reasons, so of course you can't bloody park on them. Get there earlier, park further away, walk to school…don't endanger other people's children just so yours don't have to walk a few extra metres to school.

MRSMYM · 17/03/2018 11:10

Thanks everyone ,
The yellow lines I am talking about are not infront of the school gate ,I know you can't do infront of school what I am saying if All surrounding streets are double yellow as there is no parking in the surrounding area .. so thanks for the suggestion because I have heard from few schools mums that on school pickup and drop off u can and I wasn't sure about that that's why I asked here ....

OP posts:
bastardkitty · 17/03/2018 11:44

Oh, probably just the optional kind then...

EggysMom · 17/03/2018 11:49

Waiting for 15 seconds while your teenager exits the car rapidly pretending not to know you, and then similarly pulling up by your waiting teenager so they can climb in and then immediately driving off ... possibly. Debatable.

Parking for 10 minutes whilst you leave the vehicle to walk your primary-aged child to the school gates, and then parking for 10 minutes at the end of the day to wait for your child to be walked out of the school building ... nope.

whampiece · 17/03/2018 12:30

You should not be driving. Yellow lines are pretty basic knowledge and if you do not possess the level of understanding required for the basics I honestly dread to think what you make of slightly more complex road markings.
