Can you recommend a tent?

Suitable for me, DP and DS (2): not madly expensive, but not flimsy and disposable, good value, easy to put up and down, practical for little ones - a 'porch' or covered area so that muddy boots don't go straight into the sleeping bit, etc, and not too spartan - DP is definitely not an outdoor type, and I don't want to put him off just as he's agreed to camping!

Try a khyam tent - we just got a Galaxy 400 from Outdoor Megastore online for £200.

Hi, Blu. Have a cruise round camperlands for helpful information and then either wild day or outdoor focus or Hugh Lewis for prices and availability.

I used to live just down the road from Camperlands in Manchester - we used to go and look round in all the tents "just for fun" (we had to make our own entertainment in those days, you know). I am getting very tempted by all this tent talk on MN at the moment!

Flip · 03/08/2004 19:26

Marthamoo - are you coming to the Summer Party?

marthamoo · 03/08/2004 19:27

Nope, 'fraid not. I would have liked to but dh wouldn't have gone for it at all. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it though - hope there will be pictures available for us all to look at!

Sorry Blu, we've just bought this one from Argos for £150 and it's huge! It's got three bedrooms and we managed to put up a four seater table in the middle and still be able to walk round. It took about 20 minutes to put up first time so should be quicker after that but we haven't put it up since because it barely fits in our garden and our garden is pretty big.

Flip · 03/08/2004 19:29

Could you not come without your dh? Even if it's just for one night. We've got a spare room in our tent.

Janh · 03/08/2004 19:43

moo, we bought our new one from Camperlands...haven't put it up yet though...

Wish you could come...

another recommendation for Khyam from me - definitely go for one which has integral poles - no threading through the nylon required all you have to do to put it up is connect the two bits of pole and to take down disconnect them. It takes me 5 mins to put up and take down on my own.

shrub · 03/08/2004 20:14

phatcat - could you say which model khyam you mean and how many people can you fit inside? i've also been looking to buy one

Blu · 03/08/2004 20:18

oooh, thank you, thank you. I'm getting so excited. And this will all be v encouraging for DP, who has barely been beyond the reach of a lampost in the past. They're practically canvas bungalows!

Could I add that my DH can stand up in the main part of our Khyam and he's 6'6". Has two rooms each sleeping 2 folk plus the big standy up dome bit in the middle

Blu · 05/08/2004 14:52

Oooh, thank you MN-ers, JanH, I have ordered this from Hugh Lewis. Very excited!

Wow, Blu, that's an excellent price!

Having 2 separate bedrooms is very useful, you can choose to all sleep in one and use the other space for storage and keep the living area clear. And 2m tall is very civilised. Hope you have a great time when you go (and decent weather, it always helps!)
