What sort of thing should I be looking for in terms of an environmentally friendly car

Don’t really know any car enthusiasts or mechanics as not long started driving. Need a family suitable car and have looked at hybrid but quite expensive. Not sure what makes a car that is not hybrid better for the environment or indeed better for low emissions and looking forward less tax to pay. Any help appreciated

For me the number one rule is Reduce Recycle and Reuse. Therefore, for me is a case of buy a second hand car and run it until it dies.

Diesel is better for the planet, but bad for people, personally I would choose diesel.

The batteries in electric and hybrid cars are very bad for the planet (google lithium mining). I would avoid electric cars and wait for hydrogen power to come online.

Really don’t agree with Kursk. If you want a cheap family car look at a hybrid petrol car. There are plenty of models and the hybrid setup will save a lot on fuel.

Diesels do get good mileage and emit less carbon dioxide than petrol cars but they emit a load of other horrible pollutants that are dangerous to human health. In particular nitrous oxides, soot and particulates. Diesels are being quickly phased out and your resale value for a diesel may fall sharply.
