Help... i've recently changed my hairstyle which means i now have to straighten my hair every day and my 3 yr old Kodo straightners are just not up to the job! I would love GHD's but at the mo can't justify spending about £80 on them so having searched tinternet I am confuddled at the different straighteners available and any advice would be gratefully appreciated...

I too was at the GHD prices BUT as my sister wisely pointed out, they will last and last and you won't end up having to replace them, thus spending more money in the long run so imho, GHD's are the way to go and they are BRILLIANT!!!!!!!! Worth every penny!!!

Just don't do what my hairdresser did.....had extensions and while straightening them while waiting for fake tan to dry or something, accidently caught her nipple!!!! Ouch!!

hattie2 · 05/05/2007 22:57

I've got these and they're fab - just as good as any that have been used on me at the hairdressers.

MissRible · 05/05/2007 23:00

save for GHD's nothing else does the job quite the same

Pimmsontherocks · 05/05/2007 23:03

Save the dosh for GHD - ALL my hairdressers friends agree that NOTHING ELSE works as well.

Mine are now 6 years old and still working perfectly... it is so worth every penny.

A cheaper alternative and as good as GHd is SPC.

I bought apair on the net a pair of top of the range SPC ceramic for £50, they heat up to 210C. I did my research at the time but I cannot remember the site I bought them from, it was not amazon, ebay, or similar.

it think it was the manufacturer one, but I cannot find again by googling...mmmh...strange

exrebel · 05/05/2007 23:08

hattie2, you beat me to it!

missgriss · 05/05/2007 23:17

Another GHD vote here too. My hair is wild and it takes my GHD's no time at all to tame it.

essanel · 05/05/2007 23:20

Thanks guys - I have had a look at the SPC ones - luckily we have a salon services close by who are open to the public so will check them out tomorrow! I know the GHD's are the best but i hate my hair just now as i loved the style when the hairdresser did it but can't get it the same - so can't wait to save up for them! will probably end up with the spc ones just now and set up a fund for the ghd's for crimbo! I had only previously used them on my fringe but i love the super smooth all over look! just as an aside now that i'm using them daily what do you recommend oil/protection wise?

GHD's all the way for me aswell

bewilderbeast · 05/05/2007 23:42

wet to straight
save time and do a great job

purpleflower · 05/05/2007 23:54

I had GHD's and they were brilliant until they gave up, I only had them 6 months. The hairdresser messed up and they never got fixed but thats another story.

I now have remington wet to straights which are really good but I find it takes a long time. I also have a £30 pair of remingtons which are brilliant and have lasted 3 years. I couldn't find them in argos but the wet to straights are half price look . There is also a different remington half price that looks good on the same page.

Hope this helps

I have a pair of these unused that you could have for postage. DD only them once or twice, I tried to persuade her they were better for her hair, but ended up with GHD's for us both.

I think I have lost the stand, but you are welcome to them

essanel · 06/05/2007 22:06

Alibubbles if you are sure - they look fab! I have been hinting at dh and fingers crossed he takes the hint for ghds but wont be till b'day time in july and my hair can't wait that long!!
If you let me know re postage and what you would like for them then I can pay with paypal or bank transfer... I love mumsnet

I have a pair of FHI's from Hair Tools and they are FAB! Bought on hairdresser's recommendation she reckons they're better than GHDs AND much cheaper. They're outselling GHDs at her supplier.

They heat up to 232C as top temperature with a temperature dial to adjust for your hair type (although I use them at top whack, every other day, and have no sign of damage at all), high specification plates and you can use them wet to dry which most other types of straightener you can't. Heat up extremely quickly.

Would definitely recommend.

ash6605 · 06/05/2007 22:13

another vote for FHI's.
ditto what RUBBERDUCK says,my hairdresser uses them too.

alibubbles · 06/05/2007 23:16

essanel, just email me your address and I'll pop them in a jffy bag ( I do have the bo somewhere, but found the irons in the bottom of DD's wardrobe. They're not being used, or needed, so you're welcome to them. - call it mumsnet freeecyle!

I got some Babyliss Pro straighteners yesterday and they are fab. Think the model is 2075U. £30 in Boots with £10 off. Couldn't quite stretch to getting GHD's!

alibubbles · 24/05/2007 19:56

Hi, have you received the straighteners I sent you?

alibubbles · 25/05/2007 15:22

essanel. It would be good to know that you have received them
