We have only just decided to try and wear a hair band ratehr than use clips so I haven't tried many yet but the one I bought in Sainsbury this week has been given the thumbs down me thinks.
I'm assuming some of you will of been through this already with your own DDs and therefore might be able to tell me which ones seem to be most comfortable etc.

TIA

the soft stretchy knitted ones from Claires accessories

otherwise the ones without the teeth are good

tbh none of mine get on with hair bands

ceolas · 05/05/2007 19:12

We don't have much luck with the stretchy ones here. Think they must have weirdly shaped heads! They are always popping off the back.

mckenzie · 05/05/2007 19:37

i've tried the stretchy ones and it happens exactly as ceolas describes!

i wear one sometimes. they do start to feel a bit tight after a while. dd1 complains that her hairline feels sore after having the hair pulled back.

snowwonder · 05/05/2007 20:31

they do material over plastic ones in accessorise, it is like plastic with ribbon wraped over it

mckenzie · 06/05/2007 07:45

thanks for the replies. I'll look in Accessorise this week Snowwonder, thanks for the tip. PErhaps it's just going to be a case of trial and error.

I bought my 2 year old dd some alice bands from Sainsburys the other day and we are having the same problem. I must admit, I find it very painful behind my ears after wearing one for even half an hour, so can't blame them.

mckenzie · 06/05/2007 08:15

there must be a comfortable one though 2sporgsmum, mustn't there?
Somewhere out there. maybe I'll make that my new mission in life and if I can't find one i'll invent one and go on Dragon's den to get the finance and have the lovely Peter Jones give me £90,000!

I think there is just no winning with my dd. I have just had her hair cut into a shorter bob with a fringe because her hair is so thin, bobbles break it. She pulls clips out and won't wear the alice bands. So I am going to just let her wander around with her hair all over the place because that is the only way she likes it.

Pollyanna · 06/05/2007 08:29

my 2 year old is the same, she wont wear clips or bobbles (even though she would look very sweet in them ) so she just has a long fringe which constantly needs cutting and a mullet ) Perhaps I'll try a hair band next...

snowwonder · 06/05/2007 17:18

there are some comfy ones around but even then they prob need time to get used to wearing them so maybe just try for short periods

the ribbon ones i said about have ribbon on the ends as well (the bits that dig in)

good luck

They do some great ones at the Amercian PX on the army base here - they are elastic ones so dead comfy but have special grippy bits so they don't slip off. "Playground tested" according to the packet...
They work really well on DD who has fine slippy hair. I can send you some if you want?

mckenzie · 06/05/2007 17:50

that's really kind of you scootergrrrl. Do you have paypal? ( I opened an account just this week so very keen to send some money to someone and learn how to use it properly)

I do indeed. You can CAT me if you want and I'll give you my email and let you know how much they are. I think they're about five dollars, so £2.50 for five.

mckenzie · 07/05/2007 21:21

I did cat you scootergrrrl. did you receive the message?

Yes, it arrived. Am off to the PX tomorrow so I'll get some then and let you know how much they were. Will one pack be enough or do you want a couple? They also do no-slide bobbles if you want those (and yummy jelly beans but that's another story!)

mckenzie · 08/05/2007 14:52

I think just two packs please but no bobbles - I have tons of those from when i had long hair too.
I really appreciate this - thanks again

hi scootergrrrl

the bands arrived today - thank you so much. DD asleep just now so she hasn't tried one on yet but DS (off school with chicken pox!) thinks they are great
