Just seen it mentioned on another thread, and had a quick look. The clothes loook really nice, seems to be loads that my Dd's would like, and the prices seem good too.

I have never ordered anything from the US before though, so how does it work ??
Will I be charged alot for shipping or customs or anything like that ??

all the time!!!!!!
Shipping is about £30.00 for about 5-6 items, it still works out cheaper than buying from the same make over here and cheaper than say Gap or Boden even with the shipping.
It also sells really well 2nd hand on ebay!
The clothes are excellent, smaller fitting as US stuff usally is...
Totally recommend sales service etc too!
Arrives 5 days afetr ordering!

Piffleoffagus · 02/08/2004 10:21

I never paid customs yet!

nutcracker · 02/08/2004 10:23

Ooooh sounds good then.
Dd1 has already spotted several things that she likes. May start ordering a few bits for b'day and xmas presies.

Thanks Piffle

Yep, another fan. Website is very efficient. Probably best to order bigger, DD is 3y4m and tall but not freakily so. She needs age 5 in most stuff.

gymboree.com almost always has lines on sale, I have just bought dd the sunflower range and eurpean vacation set too, I love the slimmer sizing and the funky but pretty designs, am donating all my Boden money to them this year in protest!

OldieMum · 02/08/2004 13:12

Another happy online customer. I bought a pile of summer clothes for dd this year. They are on the small side, but I anticipated this, thank goodness, and her size 2y clothes fit well (she is 18 months). They have lots of nice, co-ordinating designs. They also seem to realise that little girls should look like children, not apprentice ladies of the night, unlike M&S, Next or Mothercare.

annh · 02/08/2004 14:08

So do I take it that almost no-one has paid customs duty on Gymboree online? When we lived in NL I had a US friend who seemed to have unlimited luggage allowance and who used to bring stuff back to me. I have been tempted several times since we came back to order online but always get cold feet. The only thing I have ordered online recently was Clinique stuff on which I got charged a total of nearly £12, mixture of customs and the Post Office charge. However, that was coming from hong Kong so maybe makes a difference?

nutcracker · 02/08/2004 14:30

Ahh right, so regarding the sizing, what size jeans/trousers should i order for an extremely skinny 6 yr old with no bum ?? She is of normal height for a 6yr old though.
As i want them to fit for a while, and don't mind if they are a tad too big, shall I get a 7 ??

OP posts:
marialuisa · 02/08/2004 14:35

Get a 7, the fit is usually quite slim but length isn't extreme.

The sales online reflect the sales in the shops BTW.

nutcracker · 02/08/2004 14:40

Cheers Marialuisa

Sorry to be a pain but can i just ask a bit more about sizes.

My kids are

Dd1 - 6.8 average height, very skinny no bum

Dd2 - 4.7 bit on the short side, avervage weight.

Ds - 1.7 bit short too, quite chubby

How much bigger should i order the stuff then ??
There is a dress on there that i like for Dd2, but not sure wether to get 5 or 6, and a nightie for Dd1 only goes up to 7, would that be too small.

Suppose it's trial and error really.

marialuisa · 02/08/2004 15:35

Have to say I'd get your DD2 an age 6. my sis is 4y2m and is into a 6 now! But then i'm a mum who prefers things to be a bit too big rather than a bit too small. Really hate seeing kids with sleeves round their wrist bone beacuse mum's determined to wring every last ounce of wear out of something....

As for the nightie, get a 7, it may be fine and if not DD2 can use it.

DS probably needs a 2T.

Definitely trial and error (why I prefer going to the shop itself!), leggings seem to come up a bit shorter too. And the plain tops (2 for $22 or whatever it is) always seem to come up smaller than the decorated tops....

There was a disparaging comment on another thread about mums who know too much about Gymboree. I need to join that website!

Joanne69 · 02/08/2004 19:27

I've ordered twice from Gymboree and have never paid tax, I either love or hate the range of clothes that they have. The sales on gymboree.com are good value and there isnt much difference in buying online and taking into account the shipping than buying in the store thanks to the strong pound at the moment. Both times I have ordered from them I have had the parcel within 5 days. I have just sent back some gymbucks so see if I get the refund back on my credit card.

Piffleoffagus · 04/08/2004 12:01

Just got my gorgeous parcel from them now...
They use Deutsche Post from the US so it has gone through Germany (Allegmane to be exact)
This is why I reckon you do not get hit
PS the clothes are awesoem
one more thing, I bought the day before they discounted the range I bought, they have deducted the extra and refunded my card already!
Boden can piss off, this is great service!!

BooMama · 16/09/2004 10:56

Hi - I ordered some things on the 3rd Sept, got an e-mail saying they had been dispatched on the 8th. But still no joy. Has anybody else waited this long? Am wondering if it has got held up in customs...
Am considering making an order from their 'sister' website, Janie and Jack but I want to see how this order goes first.

posyhairdresser · 16/09/2004 12:45

My recent order took about 2 weeks HTH

BooMama · 16/09/2004 13:28

Think I will wait another week...
The Janie and Jack stuff is really sweet - although more expensive than Gymboree. I think it's supposed to be their luxury version, there's a lot of cashmere in the baby section.
There's a jumper and trousers I've seen for my dd which including postage from the US would cost about £55 - rather excessive so I'm trying to justify as Christmas / birthday outfit...

KateandtheGirls · 16/09/2004 13:44

Janie and Jack is GORGEOUS, but as BooMama said, more expensive than Gymboree. They also don't go as big as Gymboree. I think the largest size is 4T.

annh · 16/09/2004 14:57

I am also waiting for an order from Gymboree which was supposedly dispatched on 9 Sept. Was beginning to wonder so glad it's not just me who is waiting!

BooMama · 17/09/2004 14:42

Received parcel this afternoon - very pleased with clothes! And no taxes!
annh - look out for yours soon!

calcium · 19/09/2004 17:41

there are quite afew stores around the UK but unfortuantely they are now all being closed down as of October. They have great discounts on at the moment so if there is a store near you i would get out there rather than buy on line although this is going to be the only option in the future. I think its such a shame as their clothes are by far the nicest I have seen around and not so many other kids wear them, they also reduce prices really quickly and have new lines continuously coming in.
