To Micralite or not?

I was just wondering, has anyone here got a micralite and what do you think?

They are selling them on janeoutlet.es for ?100, which seems like a deal to me.

We were going to get one when DD was born but went with the Buzz instead. But it looks like it'd be great for travelling/popping out to the shops etc.

I walk everywhere (we don't drive) and so use the Buzz or Phil and Teds pretty much every day but neither of those are great for flying with, which I do a lot.

And before you all ask, yes, I do have a problem. I can't stop loving buggies!

Any opinions would be great!

That's a bargin. How much is postage to the uk?

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 11:39

I don't know, I live in Ireland. But to here it's 15 euro. So that's 115 altogether which is about £78.

I'm really torn. We probably don't really need it but it just looks so handy for travel. We discounted it before DD as the Buzz was so sturdy adn suited our needs so much more. I didn't plan on Flying so much and since seeing a friend's one in RL I think I love it. Even went on a day trip to Daisy and Tom to try it out at the weekend!

From your thread title I thought you meant one of these

these

and was going to say do it, it sounds fun, then read the rest of your thread....

mumto3girls · 02/05/2007 11:41

Hi i had one but sold it...how old is your DC?

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 11:41

lol!

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 11:56

She's 11 months. Why did you sell it?

OP posts:
mumto3girls · 02/05/2007 11:58

It is great to push, and fantastic that it's small and freestanding when closed, but my dd never looked comfortable in it, the recline is virtually useless and very hard to do with dd in it, the seat did not seem to support her back properly and she always looked slumped....

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 12:17

Hmmm... I did see one at the playground yesterday, the baby was the same age as DD and the mum had a folded up blanket behind the baby I presume to prop him up. DD wouldn't sit in it in Daisy and Tom, there was too much going on around her and so she couldn't sit still. Interesting...

maybe I might go back again with an army of mothers (well, four of us) and wrestle her into it...

OP posts:
mumto3girls · 02/05/2007 12:26

The seat is also partly made of mesh, so the baby's back can get cold in cooler weather if you don't have blanket or the footmuff ( which I had and it is so short that dd3 who was a year old wwhen i sold it hated it as her feet reached the bottom and it was quite tight).

The seat is very hammock like and therefore her back always looked curver (like in a deck chair iykwim).

Great for short journeys though...also no proper foot rest and the edge of the pushchair seat seemed to dig into the back of her legs(as she wasn't tall enough for it to reach the back of her knees).

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 12:29

This all sounds like my Maclaren Volo. I'm not sure now...

Maybe I should just hold off and try to get her into it before i commit. I suppose we'd really only be using it for travel so not that ofter.

Anyone have any ideas what it's like for an older child?

OP posts:
mumto3girls · 02/05/2007 12:30

No, I've had a Maclaren Volo ( sold it brand new I would never out my dd in it!!)

The micralite is definitely better than that!

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 12:34

Oh good! Bought it on a whim, went out to a mums meet up with my maxi cosi, base for Buzz but no clips and the friend I was with (the one with the micralite as it happens) suggested why not buy something light etc for travel and the like. The Micralite that day was over e200 whereas the Volo was e75. It felt more appropriate!

I rarely use it, just for going to the corner shop really. Will prob bring it to a weekend thing we're going to in May but that's it really.

I'm sure you'd get most if not all of your money back on eBay if you didn't like it. They seem to sell well.

How did you find out how much P&P was? I e-mailed them ages ago and they never got back to me. Not that I'm allowed any more buggies anyway!!

I just started to put the transaction through then canceled it before I put my card number in. I can't imagine it'd be much different to post to Uk as Ireland. Those prices are euro by the way!

I think I'm just going to do it. And not tell DP. But he'll kill me but it's only e115! I might need bed and board soon, If anyone has a spare room I'll be a knockin!

monkeymonkeymoomoo · 02/05/2007 18:44

Love it love it love it Never looked back and wouldn't buy another pushchair!

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 18:49

Yeh!!!

I'm so going to do it! I'm going to do it now before his dad calls over. He's distracted so might not notice me sliding the credit card out...

Cue james bond music!

i adore mine.

issyissyissy · 02/05/2007 18:59

I am also addicted to buggies, much to my dh's amusement! I have just bought a quinny zapp which is fantastic. it folds up small, is a dream to push (even with my ds who is 3.10) My dd is 8 months and looks so comfy in it and sleeps well so fab for shopping! Would recommend.

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 19:02

I did it! Oh I'm having a total rush now! THis could be dangerous! Will have to cut up my credit card!

it says ten working days for delivery so it should be here before we go away on the 25th.

OP posts:
Flowermum · 02/05/2007 19:06

Still giddy

OP posts:
horsemadgal · 02/05/2007 23:17

Good for you, bargain price.
I got a HUGE garage bill today so I'd better not.

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 23:25

We've only just paid off my credit card after I bought loads of stock for my website so probably shouldn't have, we're a bit strapped.

Surely you can get an injection for this sort of addiction?

OP posts:
horsemadgal · 02/05/2007 23:42

Well I say I need some addiction. After all DH has fishing and football and cars!!

Flowermum · 02/05/2007 23:49

I have been known to say to people "At least it's not cars I'm buying here!"

So far we have a Buzz, P&T, Volo and someone gave us an Urban Detour to leave at my parents but it doesn't fold. Not too bad I suppose!
