Just checked it out, normally can wish list about £400 of things for dd and me.
this time, only like a couple of trousers for dd, the reat appears dull, OH and a lot more expensive!
Sigh... off to Gymboree

I've refused them my custom since a particularly sorry episode last year. I orderd a duffle coat from them for DS1. Very difficult to find this particular style, which DS1 was very set on. I thought I'd cracked it when I found it chez Boden. Placed the order via the website and awaited delivery. Several days/week passed and then I received a phone call from them. There had been a problem with the details of my credit card - problem being a mis-transcription by their staff. Could I repeat my cc details over the phone? Yes - and did. Several weeks later I received an email telling me that the item I'd ordered was out of stock. No indication when the item went out of stock - on the day I'd placed the original order, on the day they'd called me to confirm my cc details.... If the item was out of stock when I placed the order, why call to conform my cc details? Having received my original order, why not hold back one particular item until they'd confirmed my cc details???

I emailed them to express my disappointment, but they didn't even have the decency to respond in any way, shape or form. They continue to bombard me with emails, but they have little chance of getting my business until they respond to my original email.

Fair play, the did send ds girls pyjamas once in the sale and the when I returned all boys in his size had gone...
Had always imagined them to be irresistible....
seems not, DH and his bank manager will be pleased!

I have managed to make quite a long very wishful thinking list quite succesfully, and I haven't received the mini boden catalogue yet so have done that by looking at the little pictures on the website...
For dd I desperately want the lambswool ballet cardigan with the gypsy babycord skirt. Cardigan very expensive though... Also, a stripy lamby funnel neck and the spotty printed rollneck looks sweet
My ds still fits all his 3-4 yr clothes from last winter so doesn't need much plus this year he will be in school uniform for th first time so I won't need so much anyhow (that makes me a little sad, but not so my dh and finances!!)
For myself I love the silk trim camisole and cardigan and also the girly jumper.
Of course I cannot start to afford it so will just fold back the corners of the pages and wait for a fantastic offer...

allatsea · 31/07/2004 13:24

Yes, very disappointing all round, nothing for me, ds or dd this time round, and even the 'ok' things are really expensive

posyhairdresser · 31/07/2004 14:13

Womenswear seems a lot worse than last year but I still managed to order some skirts and a wrapover dress - not arrived yet though.

Ordered 3 pairs of funky trousers, a butterfly skirt, 3 hotchpotch tops, some suede boots with flowers on, a Rapunzel nightie & dressing gown for dd - these arrived recently and I am pleased with them all...

posyhairdresser · 31/07/2004 14:40

My wrap over dress just arrived - it's crap!

enid · 31/07/2004 19:26

will get dd1 a t-shirt dress as she loves them and maybe dd2 a fleece lined anorak but I am not bothering with anything else -gap or hennes much cheaper and less ubiquitous.

the womens clothes are hideous IMO and vastly overpriced. And as for the mens stuff...I made the mistake of ordering some stuff for dh once and he was horrified

OldieMum · 31/07/2004 20:16

My main problem is that all the women's tops are waist length and don't cover my still wobbly post-pg tummy. On the rare occasion that they stock something with a hip-length style, I have ordered it and it has been fine.

shrub · 31/07/2004 20:59

its not as good as it use to be - where else does everyone shop? i love toast clothing but so expensive though they do have a good sale (www.toastbypost.co.uk)another one which has lovely stuff mainly for blokes is www.oldtownclothing.co.uk and have just found out monsoon have finally got a online shop.

mrsflowerpot · 31/07/2004 21:27

oh don't get me started on the tops... I'm only 5ft2 and still they barely cover my nipples... I have big boobs so I order a size too big, but even so. And surely a huge proportion of their womenswear customers have post-pg tums, why don't they realise this???

I've stopped buying the women's stuff mostly, although I have ordered what looks like a nice coat from the winter. I do buy from the kids stuff, the baggies are great for ds.

Slinky · 31/07/2004 22:09

I've never liked Boden - for kids, me or DH! I think their clothes are boring/drab and vastly over-priced for what they are!

Would hate to think what DH would say if I ever ordered anything for him

Joanne69 · 01/08/2004 23:02

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who cant wear Boden tops, I'm 5'10" so quite tall and they no way near cover my wobbly bits, and I have plenty of those. And I just love the look of the tops but have never ordered any due to length. I've ordered some skirts andd 3/4 lenght trousers a while ago and they seemed fine. Never been too keen on the kids stuff, much prefer Gymboree/Gap/Hennes for dds

Azure · 02/08/2004 09:13

I also agree about the tops - so frustrating. I don't want to show my flabby belly to the world. Let's face it, their target audience is not 18 year-old skinny girls. Still managed to order 2 pairs of trousers (the bootleg wool-mix ones are great for work), the camisole top and cardigan, and another top for me, plus a pair of trousers & a top for DS. I got loads of stuff for DS in the sale last month.

enid · 02/08/2004 09:27

I agree about the tops - wide and short - mmm, such a good look, especially if you are 5' 8" with a 'baby bag' tummy.

In fact we had a whole thread about how rubbish the tops were a while back.

posyhairdresser · 08/08/2004 20:16

Skirt now arrived and will be going straight back!

Womenswear is rubbish this season, girlswear is nice though IMO

Its ok, the usual Boden stuff, I love the look but its so expensive to buy everything and get that look. The trouble with Boden nowadays is you can spot it a mile off, especially the kids stuff. I like the fleece lined trousers for boys and the fleecy pull on things but for the rest this year it'll be H&M I think and possible Next providing "Next" doesnt appear on it anywhere. Are there any other H&M type places anyone can recommend

Piffleoffagus · 08/08/2004 20:54

have re evaluated and put a maybe by one or two things for dd and myself, but as I have ordered an extensive autumn wardrobe fir herself from Gymboree gonna be hard pressed to squeeze that through the bank a/c...
dh is alert to BODEN on statements...
