wilkienet is definitely the best wee baby carrier but at 5 months you might be pushing your luck getting your moneys worth. i am still using mine and dd is 6 months and no back pain. just bought a macpac for carrying her on my back which is great too.

can you borrow/swap a wilkinet? they're the best for distributing the weight around your body, imo

bea · 29/07/2004 18:32

i think i might just borrow one from friends as you're all being sensible and right as he is almost 6 months now and would prob not get used too much soon!

thanks all!

was tempted at the bargains at kiddicare you see!!!

we'll go for one after this one is born - have a tomy one, but after using a Wilkinet one with a friend's baby - won't faff with the hundreds of straps and clips with the tomy one!....now must check out the sale at kiddicare!!!

Tigerlillies · 01/08/2004 22:41

try again

anothr vote for the macpac when your ds is old enough. I could if needed still just about carry my large 3.5ds in it now. DD 17mths loves it though

hi bea I liked the tomy safari carrier much more than the baby bjorn. The old style baby bjorn(with no extra back support strap)got uncomfortable before 5 months if carrying ds for any length of time.I then bought a tomy safari which is very well made and very comfortable for carrier and baby too.Personally I think that the baby bjorn carriers are well overpriced athough they are good for small babies.(but I can never seem to get babies arms comfy in them)
However everybody beware as I have read an american article on the internet(I would post a link but I dont know how to on here)about very small babies falling through the legholes of bb carriers and being injured.(which is obviously very shocking and awful) Id go for a tomy front carrier everytime.
Ive never used a back carrier so I cant recommend one of these.

Wilkinet is great for the back and you can even use it beyond the first year. It's a bit fiddly but very comfortable.

try a back carrier that is made from soft material, not the framed ones. i've got a babytrekker which is brilliant, takes all the weight off your shoulders, i walk miles in it. if interested go to www.babytrekker.com, you can use it until they are 4 years. another one is the ergo.
