Baby slings in hot weather - any advice?

Hi - looking forward to carrying our newborn in a sling after it arrives in June, but slightly worried about heatwave predicitions for the summer - has anyone had a problem with slings being too hot for babies when it's super hot? Any thoughts or advice on how to manage this?

Many thanks

i'd be too scared to wear a sling full stop! Knowing me i'd trip over and fall on the baby. I can't look when I see people carrying there tiny babys in them as I fear they will fall over! They are highly pratical however!

laughinglil- I understand your concern... I find however when my boys just need a cuddle or have a 'I hate the pram' moment having a sling means IF I do trip (I have only once and that was over a toy at home!) I have my hands to catch myself iykwim!!

Pancotta- I know of a slinger in Norfolk... I will point her in this direction and see if she will post- she is always on about how she never sees anyone else slinging!!

I use a ringsling made by myself mostly as I make them (not going to spam myself tho ;) ). I absolutely find padded rs's a PITA!! I only make unpadded ones myself. If you wanted a padded I would recomend the Maya lightly padded- which has been redesigned and is now getting rave reviews. As for unpadded- all I will say is be careful to get something that has 'proper' slingrings without weld marks on them...there are some out their that would be fine with a baby but then I wouldn't personally be hapy using them with a toddler (and I use my rs with my 3.2 yr old). If you google 'ring sling uk' you will find a few of us wahm that make unpadded rs within the first few pages.

Absolutely you need slings in diff cols like shoes

other hire shops also at bigmamaslings and rumplebums.

Other option is to DIY it. There are links at bigmamaslings about how to make your own.... and if anyone gets stuck I am happy to advise.

Noviceknitter - oops, soz for delay. The Gypsymama distributes weight around whole body, not just shoulders (managing easily with my 14lb 7wk old whopper for at least 2hrs). All wraparound carriers do this

Accessorizequeen - HELLO! Had a boy - Jake - on 13 March He's gorgeous but just as hard work as DD was - colicky, cries loads, goes into meltdown easily etc etc Can't wait to get to 4mths. I obviously don't do easy babies. How are things with you??!! Still love the MB - have it in cot mode (but how do you remove the pushchair hood??!!) at the mo, with kiddyboard that DD absolutely refuses to go on - still working on her. Resorted to buying a Phil & Teds too because I had chronic backpain after an emergency section and could hardly walk, and we have to go down a v busy main road to get anywhere. DH thought a double would be safer so I said I'd sell the MB. Except the P&T isn't anywhere near as nice as the MB, so the P&T will go as soon as poss, hence the need to get DD on the kiddyboard. Anyway, I'm rambling again. Life is a bit manic with 2, isn't it?? Defo no more babes for us

Just ordered another Gypsymama baby bali breeze in another colour

DS definitely wasn't too hot during the recent mini heatwave, with vest, t-shirt, leggings. Would just put him in vest in sling if v hot.

AW, congrats on ds, sorry to hear about the section tho', that's hard with a toddler around. My ds2 is 5 months this week, still in the carrycot as can't bear to not look at him anymore (and getting the pushchair hood off requires superhuman strength, I wrestled for an hour with it). Can't believe you got a p&t as well! Funny, but ds1 absolutely loves the buggyboard & begs me to take it out (I hate it!). MB a dream, but I do think I might fish the bug out of the garage when I have to take the carrycot off as I want to look at his little face some more. And already thinking of no.3 enjoying it so much - he's been much much easier than ds1. Hope things get better with ds soon!

AQ - THREE!!! You're brave! There's no way I'm doing this again! Age not on my side either though (41 in Aug)
