Need suggestions about glass shower stall doors and panel please

Our bathrooms have recently been updated, and now feature showers. One bathroom has a shower only (fitted into a corner), and one has a bath with shower overhead. Both bathrooms need glass doors and/or panel to stop the shower water spattering out. I am looking for glass doors for the shower stall, and for the bath need a glass panel that extends part way down the edge of the tub.

Would be grateful if anyone has suggestions/recommendations for where to look and/or specific product lines. Budget not a huge consideration...at least I don't think it is! Anyway - I'd like good quality - not ones that 'wobble' when you open them. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Try Daryl. I'm really pleased with the shower door we had supplied and fitted when our bathroom was revamped. I had no idea but took the rather posh bathroom shops' recommendation.

Porcupine - thanks for the tip. Makes sense to do it that way.

missrible - the daryl site looks fab. Thanks.

Two silly questions - where do you put soaps/shampoo etc in your showers? Did you buy some sort of rack, and if so, does it hang over shower door/shower head, stick on wall, etc, or do you just set bottles on the shower floor?

Second question - what is the best place to put towel rails so towels don't get wet during shower, and you don't drip across the floor to get towel after shower?

For something a bit different, you could have one of these
we have one, they are fab and fold away to nothing

Porcupine · 30/04/2007 10:54

how much?

MissRible · 30/04/2007 11:05

Ah, can answer that too !

I bought a posh glass bathroom shelf and had it fitted (screwed in) above head height so you reach up to pick up the shampoo etc. The shelf has a little silver bar around it so stuff doesn't fall off. I got the idea from an old house we lived in that had the same but without the little bar!

The shower stays bottle free at floor level, no nasty suction shelves are needed and you're not displaying your bathroom products to all and sundary as the shelf doesn't notice unless you are in the shower.

Obviously don't try this with a cheap glass shelf!

CAT me with your email address and this evening I'll photograph my shelf and send it to you.

cost of the foldaway shower curtain = £179.

Pannacotta · 30/04/2007 16:29

Matki but they are v pricey...

A shower screen in this new bathroom would need to be permanently fixed due to layout, so couldn't swing out of the way on hinges to give better access to the bath. So, I'm not sure it's the best solution as I think a panel/screen would get in the way when bathing dd (she still needs help washing hair sometimes), or even for me getting in/out of the bath....but what is a good alternate solution?

Porcupine - thanks for old thread tip. Trawled through the archives and found helpful info. I looked at that foldback curved shower screen - looks fab, but won't work for me due to positioning of bathtub/wall.

MrCSWS - tell me more about the foldaway shower curtain please.
How long have you had it?
Is it holding up well with daily use/wear and tear?
Is the brace/frame sturdy?
Does the fabric curtain 'blow onto you' while in the shower the way normal shower curtains do?
Can you really fold it away wet without fabric eventually getting manky?
Would think that the curtain would need replacing periodically - is that possible?
It looks interesting, but I hesitated when I saw the bit on the website about how it requires holes drilled in tile - so obviously can't easily change to panel/door if I decide I don't like it.

Anyone else have other ideas/suggestions/brilliant solutions?

Earlybird

we got it in late 2002. it is holding up very well.

the frame is sturdy, it is made of metal (not chromed plastic), so strong. the only (small) problem we have had, is that a plastic clip that keeps it closed tight (doesn't affect working, just the two halves don't click shut when closed) broke, but the replacement part is £5.

because the curtain is like a fan, it is quite rigid. we have a 3Bar power shower and i never notice the curtain blowing in.

As far as keeping the screen from getting mildew, we spray it occasionally (maybe once a month) with dettol, but we do put it away wet. i think what happens is when you close it, because the curtain is smooth, the water runs off and out into the bath, if you see what i mean!

you can get replacement curtains - on the website it is one of the replacement parts you can get.

remember that for a panel/door you will also need to drill holes, but if you did decide to replace the new panel would most likely hide the holes (or you might be able to reuse the same holes)

We have something like this but a silver frame

here

It folds back against the wall when not in use so takes up v. little space - and doesn't need to swing out from the bath to get in and out

Earlybird · 02/05/2007 13:49

MrCSWS - thanks for more detailed info. Definitely sounds a possibility.

KTeePee - Your link showed me a screen style I hadn't seen before, so thanks for that.

Pannacotta - I recently discovered Matki. Gorgeous, but will have to figure out if it would suit my space and my budget.

MissRible - will CAT soon, as it would be helpful to see a photo of your shelf.

Builder friend is coming over tomorrow to measure/discuss options, so will show him your suggestions. Thanks for helping me research possibilities. Also am very grateful for all of your personal recommendations, which are every bit as helpful as looking at websites.
