My washing machine is dying a slow death (and my dishwasher has already passed away) I was hoping that they would last until we have the house extension done as we are extending the kitchen and moving the washing machine & tumble dryer to the new part of the kitchen...but I don't think it's going to last.
Have an integrated wahing machine at the moment, but we wanted to go for a silvery one next time- definatley don't want integrated. Learning the hard way we want a shorter wash cycle, time delay and pref a 1600 spin cycle.

On top of that, we will hopefully be getting a matching tumble dryer, but I am not really sure what to look for- we have a vented one at the moment, but is a condenser better?

I looked at a previous thread where Bosch were recommended, but they don't do a 1600 spin in silver- only white. Any advice PLEASE!!

FGS buying a washing machine for its colour?????????????

You know only a Miele or a Bosch won't die within a year of buying it.

Marina · 29/04/2007 14:28

Our Miele does 1600 and has a very short standard cycle. Our particular one is white and has no time delay but the brand is a really good one (we couldn't find what we wanted in Bosch, our usual favourite brand, either)

i have a zanussi - has choice of 3 wash cycle times
12, 8, 6, 4 or 2 hr time delay
v fast spin
and a large load

TBH- we simply can't afford the likes of Miele or Bosch. Unless I am missing some absolute bargains somewhere, it would cost us more for a Bosch/Miele 1600 spin washing machine, in whatever colour, than other makes would cost for a washing machine and tumble dryer.
We have a daughter with SN so the washing machine is always on, we live in a hard water area, and are obviously on a budget because of the house extension. It's not just the colour but yes, I do want it to co-ordinate with the rest of my new, much waited for, kitchen.

Dingle
we bought a matching Hotpoint washing machine and dishwasher last summer and they have been brilliant.

The washing machine is out of this world. Bascially it has every cycle you could ever dream of and you can alter the temp to whatever you want.

try the dishwasher again

Dingle · 29/04/2007 15:11

Thank you nbg, I have been looking at that washing machine,it seems to tick most of our boxes IYSWIM and it has matching tumble dryers to choose from.
One of my concerns is the amount of water it uses, on comparison with some others. I know it's only talk so far, but what with all the water shortages we experience in Kent, it has been mentioned about enforcing water meters, and like I said, with our DD, we accumulate a lot of washing!

Any advice about tumble dryers please- vented or condenser?

I don't know which is more effective, but we have had a condenser in our rented proprety but are having a vented in a new house, I will let you know which is better, but it will probably be too late then
YOu do have the empty the water out quite a bit from condensers to make them efficient, which can be a bit of a bind

Nbg · 29/04/2007 15:14

Ahh right. Didnt know about the water tbh.
Forgot to say that it is very quiet too.

Tumble dryers, condensor by miles. We have a Zanussi but it doesnt match our other things. We've had it nearly 4 years and it hasnt let us down once.
Have to empty the water every 4 or 5 cycles.

TheBlonde · 29/04/2007 16:46

If you can have a vented dryer then go for that
People usually only have condensors if there is no venting available

My bro has silver appliances - I think they are zanussi

iota · 29/04/2007 16:46

we have a silver AEG washing machine

Dingle, whatever you do dont buy Hotpoint

i have a hotpoint dishwasher and fridge and freezer and they are all crap

freezer is certainly NOT 'frostfree', fridge leaks water out of the bottom and dishwasher is ok but has lots of completely useless programmes
