Giving up driving

This topic might not be related to this thread but seriously I am getting very worried about my driving! I have been driving for 8 years and I have never had an issue bar one minor accident which I rear ended another car but that was as soon as I passed.

Just lately, no idea why but I seem to be careless! I don't mean to be! At all. I am hitting curbs when I am turning or parking. I pulled out of a junction the other day and there was definitely loads of time but the car on the road seemed to have sped up as I pulled out and honked me. It gave me the shock of my life because I had children in the car!

I don't know what it is! I am seriously considering not driving anymore but I have to to be able to get to work... I hate this so much! My anxiety is starting to show now because I am scared I am going to cause a massive accident Sad I promise I am not careless! I have never done this! I am having issues with my OH at the moment and stress as well can that affect it? It never usually has but it seems to be now! I feel like a useless, thick of shit and a waste of space sometimes! Sad

Have you thought of a refresher lesson with a driving instructor? He or she will identify any faults with your driving and may well be able to reassure you that actually you’re fine!

I would suggest you see your GP rather than have refresher lessons. Perhaps there is a reason for you being less able to judge these things. It is probably present when you are not driving as well, but will be less noticeable.

I definitely second the idea of getting a check from a GP. My mother was having similar issues and found she had a UTI.

Also various organisations do driver assessments, which may be a good way of getting pointers on areas to improve. You could even do a advanced driver test. It's not expensive with the IAM. Driver training is done by volunteers, so it's mainly a question of time, not cost.

My aunty had this and she had a UTI as well. She had a break from driving and now drives a v small automatic.

Ladies you was right! I do have a UTI! I suffered with them so many times I know I have definitely got it. I can't believe I didn't connect the both of them together! I am calling 111 so they can prescribe me antibiotics (they have done before) as the doctors surgery is full until next week.

Refresher driving lessons Bristol area...After passing a long time ago, and living in a City, I didn't buy a car, as either walked or cycled, however, I really need to begin driving again.

My son suggested automatic as it is much easier, so I booked with an automatic teacher.

However, he is quite negative and aggressive, and makes me really nervous.
He sifters from back pain, and when he does, he is even more naggy, saying ''your'e not on it!''

I really got upset after the last lesson, and have realised that he never says anything positive about any of his other students , either.

There is a local chap who is very highly recommended, but he only teaches manual, and is booked solid for 10-12 weeks.

Also, has anyone else found they lost confidence after a long break?

Relying on my son for lifts isn't on any more, I need my independence.
