Volvo XC90 car seat problems- help!!!

Hi
We’ve just got rid of our Landrover discovery and have got the older style Volvo XC90 (2010) which I love. However, massive problems... we’ve got three children under 5, one in a forward facing 5 point harness (age 2), and 2 in highback boosters for years to come. I don’t want to put a child in the integrated middle booster seat as it has no head support etc - probably ok for a 7/8 year old but not for us right now. So... we need to put our 5 year old in one of the back row seats. Problem is, none of our car seats sit flush with the back seats as the head rest (non-removable) is angled forwards making the highback boosters sit awkwardly. There must be highback boosters out there that work in this car as it’s a fairly classic family tank, never ever expected this to be an issue. Volvo make one but it’s about £600!!!!
Help please!!!!

We have an XC60 and 3 kids. Volvo do a clip on seat cover that goes over the integrated booster seat turning it into a high back booster. Not perfect but it supports our youngest (3yrs) pretty well.

Easy wash, easy to fit and easy to remove also if full size seat needed

Talk to the InCar Safety centre. They might have an answer.

2 of my dc were a bit older when I got my xc90 - they were 8, 6 and 18 months.

I had ds in a rear facing seat, maxi cost springs to mind, but I couldn't swear to it, dd2 in a britax high back booster, and dd1 in the middle, but on a Volvo booster seat, not just the integrated booster. They do (did?) a slimline high backed booster which was a compromise for us.

I did look at the seat cover solution too, and it seemed ok, but dd1 has to use an extra harness (due to SN) and so it didn't work for us.

Look at seats like the britax two way elite - you might find you have more success having 2 dc still rear facing, leaving more room to have a high backed booster for the third (although you can use the twe forward facing too, if room allows).

Thank you! Any idea how much the seat covers/slimline boosters cost? Thank you! Just can’t believe there aren’t any seats that would work in the back!!!

I have an XC90 and sometimes my two (4 and 5) go on the back two seats in their high back boosters - I can’t remember what make I have but as soon as the weather calms down I’ll have a look! I can’t recall there being any issues with the car seats not fitting flush

Thank you very very much!!!

Matilda1981, sorry to be a complete pain, but if you could tell me what booster seats you have I’d be so grateful (or if anyone else can tell me what they use?)
Thank you!!!

I would double check the manual, and also with Volvo direct, that boosters can be used on the rear seats - it isn't always the case. I haven't checked the xc90 because the combination of sears/ages/needs I had meant I couldn't put mine in the rear seats anyway, and now both dd1 and dd2 can go on the rear seats anyway (dd1 has been out of a seat for a couple of years, dd2 is over 135cm, but still in a seat majority of time for comfort/safety).

Britax Adventure used to be the smallest footprint full high backed booster, as I had to use one for dd1 in previous car. There may be a smaller one now. The Volvo branded hbb I used for dd1 was probabaly about £120. It was ok, but it was a compromise as it had no side protection best bet would be to take advice from In Car Safety, as they are the experts in this kind of thing, and really know their stuff (they saved me having to buy a new car when unexpectedly pregnant with dc3 -it took about 4 hours at the Milton Keynes centre, trying out loads of combinations of seats (2x hbb, 1x infant carrier) in an awkward (for 3 seats) car (Honda CRV))

Thank you! Just spoken to the main Volvo switchboard and absolutely hopeless! No help whatsoever!!! Tearing my hair out!!!

We use a Britax Highback booster in our rear seats without issue
I think it's an adventure one but they don't sell the exact model anymore

We used the integrated booster with our 5 year old. Not as secure but they are already sandwiched between 2 car seats

Alternative option is to put one child in the front seat - if you can turn off your airbag

Montyvet1 · 04/01/2018 14:25

Thank you, yes, front seat with airbag off is ok for the day to day school run, it’s if we want to go away as a family that it’s an issue. I wasn’t overly keen on the middle integrated booster seat as no side impact protection other than the two seats but obviously no padding!!! I will try that Britax option if I can find one, thank you!

Hi I know this is a old thread but I’m in the exact situation and looking for a high back booster for the 3rd row! Did you get anywhere in the end what solution did you come up with
Thanks
