They cost the earth!! I really don't want to faff with cotton wool and water but I cant part with the money for these! Anyone know of a water / fruit alternative?

I’m pretty sure Aldi do their own version of Water Wipes, I’ve definitely seen them in store before. Can’t find them on their website but if they still do them, that’s what I’ll be using when ds2 arrives.

cheeky wipes? bit of an upfront cost but you save loads long term. Plus they clean so much better than baby wipes.

InRainbows · 28/12/2017 08:20

Ooo good heads up Knickerbocker! Will check out Aldi that would be amazing if they do!

Just checked out Cheeky Wipes, I'm amazed I never heard of them! I can't lie I find them an intimidating prospect, how do you clean yours?

Cheeky wipes are amazing.
You don’t need the full set of accessories and get get the wipes (cotton terry or bamboo terry are best) from amazon or the site.
Then a pound shop Tupperware box for home and a sandwich bag when you go out. We put own brand camomile tea with them but water is fine too. Have a bag or Tupperware for the dirty ones. Stick them in the washing machine when you do a hot wash. You could put them on a rinse first by themselves if they’re filthy.
I hate disposable wipes - they don’t actually clean anything!

I use the Aldi mamia sensitive wipes on my daughter since newborn plus will do the same with my new baby in feb. Soooo much cheaper and much easier than cotton wool and water. Never had any problem with them.

scaredofthecity · 28/12/2017 08:33

I couldn't face doing the reusable nappies, but had no problem with the wipes. I used to just chuck them in with everything else with the machine on a prewash. My DS had so many poo-splotions I soon got over any worries as his clothes were often pooey anyways! they say you can wash then at 40, and then just make sure you occasionally wash them at 60. I used them until he started having proper poos after weaning, then it all got a bit too smelly for me but it definately worked out cheaper and better for his bum as well. Plus I've got them already for DC2 who is on their way.

fastfrank · 28/12/2017 08:34

Just use sensitive wipes. Aldi mamia or huggies pure are good, I've got twins and there was no way I was gonna faff around with cotton wool and you're right to say water wipes are extortionate. I can testify that normal wipes haven't harmed my babies, they were preemies too if that makes a difference.

Been using cheeky wipes for nearly 5 years, still on my original 2 packets. I have bought another 2, mainly to cut down on how often I had to wash. They are totally awesome. I keep a packet of wipes in the nappy bag for when we are out and about but at home it’s cheeky wipes all the way. Bung in the washing machine on a hot cycle to clean (we used cloth nappies too so they went in with the nappies). I leave them in the clean wipe box with a drop of Zoflora - I used the cheeky wipes oil when the kids were babies.

beereyt · 28/12/2017 08:36

I used waterwipes on my first baby when they were 2.99 euro but often on offer for 2 euro and i would stock up. By the time i had my second the price had increased by at lease 50 cent often 3.75!!! which when you consider that they have only got more popular i just think they are robbing new mums blind!
So out of protest i only used them for the first 6 weeks and then i used the local supermarket sensitive ones. Her ass is fine.

InRainbows · 28/12/2017 08:54

Thanks guys, some brilliant responses here 'her ass is fine'.

I'm pleased it is not just me being a tight arse (excuse the pun) they are genuinely a Rob!

I think I'm converted to try cheeky wipes, sounds like the nappy catches most of the mess so the mess is minor. Thank you for all the reviews I don't think I would have discovered this otherwise!

I found that even though Cheeky wipes were smaller they were more robust so one wipe would get rid of more poo than a disposable wipe. And you never put your finger through a cheeky wipe.

minipie · 28/12/2017 09:22

I used water wipes but only for the first couple of weeks. Then supermarket own brand.

Have to say I wish I'd heard of cheeky wipes back then!

MillieMoodle · 28/12/2017 09:25

I used water wipes for the first couple of weeks then switched to tesco newborn wipes. They're still around £1.10 a pack but less than half the price of water wipes. Then switched to tesco sensitive wipes when DS was about 6 months.

I do keep a couple of packs of newborn wipes in the house in case he has nappy rash as he can tolerate being wiped with those but not the sensitive wipes.

moggle · 28/12/2017 09:31

Yeah cheeky wipes for the win. We had about 50 for DD 3 years ago and I’ve just topped up another 50 and another set of boxes as we have twins on the way. I personally do like the boxes they supply because you can open them one handed which is perfect when you’re trying to hold legs with the other hand. We only used about 4 packs of disposable wipes in DD’s first 10 months.
While they’re just on milk (esp if breast milk) washing them is a total breeze as the poo is water soluble. But even when weaned none of our wipes stained as they are kept damp until being washed.
Having said all that I have got a big 12 pack of water wipes from amazon on a lightning deal for out and about with the twins, and in hospital. With DD we used the cheeky wipes when out too, but not bothering with that with 2. When they run out I’ll use Tesco newborn wipes.

ItsChristmoose · 28/12/2017 09:37

Just use normal wipes. They're not going to do any harm.

*I used waterwipes on my pfb. Now on baby #4 I realise I was a mug.
