Best cot music/lights lullaby toy to send baby to sleep?!

I'm desperate to try & get DS to sleep in his cot in the evenings rather than in my arms, so thought I'd get one of those lullaby/light show toys which strap to the side of the cot in the hope that it might zone him out & help him get to sleep.

Any recommendations? Saw a Tiny Love one today but it's a bit huge if I need to take it away with us. Also looked at the Fisher Price Aquarium/Rainforest ones, and the Fisher Price miracles & milestones one with carry handle.

Please help me get my evenings back

What about a nice sling, then at least you get your arms back lol and baby's happy too. You'll probably find that you spend the evening checking on him/stressing about him/on tenterhooks if he's in his cot!

Hi the mobile bit of the Tiny Love one is massive but my dd only has the music on Bach setting when she is tired but grumpy and refusing to drift off, and it works for her! I sometimes use the mobile in the daytime when I can't get her to nap. If we go away the music part comes with us.

I found with my DD that anything like that was a recipe for disaster because she was too easily stimulated.
Have you seen this one ? In desperation we gave it a go and it did seem to calm her down when she was getting a bit stressed.

We had a V-tech one - worked like a charm...DS went quiet when we put it on and it lulled him to sleep. He loved watching the lights on the ceiling as well. It became part of his bedtime routine so he knew when I switched it on, was time to wind down etc.

You can only try it and see - Good luck!

Thanks all

I already have a couple of slings, which is about the only thing that settles him during the day. The thing is I think he now expects to be in them during the night too, which I just can't do!

We have the Slumber Bear and also the Tiny Love mobile from DD being a baby (spot a pattern here?!?) - both calm him for 10mins then he starts screaming again

Will look at the Vtech one!

Actually last night he did go in his cot from 7.30 til 10pm hooray!!! Then didn't sleep for more than half an hr at a time from 10pm til 9am this morning. AAAARRGGHGHHHH

Sorry for yet more conflicting advice, but we used to put DD to sleep in her moses basket downstairs with us when she was very young. She would nap during the evening, then go down 'properly' when we went to bed. When she was about 5 months old we started putting her upstairs in the evening which she shouted a bit about at first, but we tried not to stress too much and just bring her back down for a while until she got used to going off on her own upstairs.

She had a wooden hanging mobile, but I've never used a sound and lights version, I think some people advise against them as it's just something else they will have to get used to doing without at some point, and they can be overstimulating. Good luck!

Thanks 1statforty. He wouldn't even settle downstairs in his moses basket in the evening. And now he's already too big for it

Getting so desperate at all the crying and our lack of sleep I burst into tears in middle of busy clinic today

oh no poor you, do sympathise

DD has on the whole been pretty good but she has had some dreadful phases both during the evenings and at night which I remember well.

I won't attempt to advise you but if you haven't already seen them there are lots of Sleep threads here, also worth checking out some of the more popular books on the subject I guess. Good luck.

We've got the winnie the pooh one for ds.
Its a light show/music one and its quite small so is easy to take away with you. Our ds loves it,used it from about 4 weeks and he's almost 1 and still uses it now

amazonianwoman · 24/04/2007 14:41

Thanks fifi, do you have a link??
