Sling advice needed!

I had a Huggababy sling with DS but found it quite hard to use and not esp comfortable. Now I need a sling to carry a newborn, due in a couple of weeks.
Have been looking at threads here and elsewhere and think I've narrowed it down to Kari Me, Moby or the Courie.
Does anyone have any comments/suggestions on which might be best? It doesn't need to last until toddler age but I would like one that is comfy to use for long periods and which is not too hard to put on or take the baby out of.
Will be breastfeeding so again would prefer a sling which allows this.
TIA!

no experience of the 3 slings you have named but I have a ring sling for my dd.(haggababy) it was wonderful for carrying her as a very tiny baby. I managed an 8h day in london wearing her the whole time when she was about 6 wks old. and only had minor backache the next day! I also breastfed her in it with some success. (she was a very bad feeder so not really a good model for that tho.) I still use it now (she's 8 months) although not as much as she now tries to escape from it

btw, we call it the sling of sleep as she really struggles to stay awake in it. I could never manage to get her out of it and into a cot still asleep, despite the instructions saying this was easy. its very easy to put on once you have it adjusted. you just stick it over your head and plop your baby in.

my only critisism is that it puts more weight on one shoulder than the other. dd wouldn't settle if I swapped shoulders so I have ended up with one strong shoulder!

i would go for a hopp personally because they are much more suportive than the ones you mentioned. i had a moby and had to stop using it one ds got to 12lbs!

Pannacotta · 23/04/2007 13:42

I didnt get on with the Huggababy last time which is why I am looking at others this time round.
Nappyaddict, cant find the Hopp anywhere, do you have any links?
Thanks

I had high hopes for my sling - thought it would be ideal for carrying newborn and not neglecting DS (3). Bought a Sling-Easy for £40 and I'm afraid it was a waste of money for me. Just couldn't get to grips with it and DD hated being cooped up in it. I'm sure other people have got along with them much better than me but I found it a big disappointment.

Have got an Ergo carrier now which is fantastic!

Pannacotta · 23/04/2007 13:51

MrsG can you use an Ergo for a newborn?
Its so hard to know about slings I find. The Huggababy is meant to be v easy but I didnt find it easy to use or comfortable...

The disadvantage to a coorie (the only one I recognise of your three) is that it's not adjistable and so may not be convenient for feeding a newborn. I could carry newborn ds2 in a coorie, but not feed him, whereas I could feed nweborn dd in a hugababe, which is adjustable. Coorie very useful for older baby IME. But there are other ringslings - have you considered one of them?

SoupDragon · 23/04/2007 13:55

Coorie.

SoupDragon · 23/04/2007 13:56

I fed faily newborn BabyDragon in it. In fact, I latched her on and ate lunch!

Pannacotta · 23/04/2007 14:20

I do like the look of the Coorie as it looks so easy. Why could you not feed DS2 in it PC?

Swizzler · 23/04/2007 14:25

Have a Didymos (wrap sling) - v versatile and you can use it as a hammock too

Pannacotta · 23/04/2007 14:28

is it easy to use Swizzler?

I can't renmemer! I just remember feeding dd in the huga, vbut strugging with ds2 and wishing I still had the huga.

JodieG1 · 23/04/2007 14:28

I love my hugabub, so easy to use and ds2 loves it, sleeps easily in it. Very versatile and long lasting.

Pannacotta · 23/04/2007 14:43

And is the hugabub easy to use? I did look at that, not sure why it didnt make my shortlist!
Where can you order one from? (its from Oz if I'm right?)

There are a few english sites that sell them. It is easy to use, looks daunting at first as it's a long piece of fabric but ver easy and comes with an instruction video.

JodieG1 · 23/04/2007 14:50

here is one place that sells them.

megandsoph · 23/04/2007 14:50

Have just recieved my coorie this weekend and it looks very secure indeed. Two very deep pieces of fleece either side. Can't wait to try it out.

Also it is very simple to put on.

JodieG1 · 23/04/2007 14:52

Also here

JodieG1 · 23/04/2007 14:53

I tried a coorie but didn't get on with it, didn't feel secure enough and I had the right size. My baby is big so maybe that is why also it's harder on the back as the weight isn't distributed evenly.

MrsGumby · 23/04/2007 14:53

Pannacotta - don't think you can use an Ergo for a newborn (I think it's suitable for about 6 months onward but don't quote me on that) but I thoroughly recommend it for when your babe gets a bit older.

Good luck for the Big Day, by the way. Are you getting sick of the usual pre-birth cliches from very well-meaning people, i.e. "oooh, not long now", "it'll come out when it's ready" blah blah blah...used to drive me mad!

Piffle · 23/04/2007 14:57

I've got the new native, similar to coorie(but I hate fleece) I think, dead simple and can feed from it easy peasy like this one

ceolas · 23/04/2007 14:58

Do you know, I think it's such a matter of personal taste. Some people rave about one sling that others can't get on with.

The annoying thing is you don't know til you try. They should have sling shops with weighted dolls so you can try them out!

Piffle · 23/04/2007 14:59

as used by angelina Jolie and Rachel WEisz if that matters

JodieG1 · 23/04/2007 15:24

I know there's a sling meet in Cambridge where people meet and try on other's slings, it's a yahoo group and there might be others that run throughout the country.

Pannacotta · 23/04/2007 16:06

It is hard as yes its so personal what you like and dont like. Though I do think the ring slings are prob less easy if you have a lively todder to contend, with as they dont keeo the baby "tucked in" close like wrap slings do.
Have singed up to the slingmeet yahoo group.
MrsG someone said to me today "Aren't you ENORMOUS!" (which I'm not in fact) but yes roll on the big day...
