Car tax query

Hi

My car tax is due on 1 jan. I’m currently on holiday for xmas and NY and will return home on 6 jan. I’ve just realised I forgot to tax it before I left. I have no documents with me. I can’t tax it online without the reminder or log book ref number. I obviously can’t get to a Post office. Does anyone know if I can tax it over the phone with no ref numbers handy? I’m in a different time zone and calling the UK will be troublesome so thought I’d ask here before I try to do it.

Thanks 🙏

Where is your car. If it's not on a road/public place I think you are ok.

Its in a secure airport car park.

When I arrive in the UK I need to drive it home 5 miles along a minor road. The only ANPR cameras I will encounter are those owned by the airport for the airport car park.

Do you think this will be ok?

You can tax your car on the web here
www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax

You will need either the reference number on you car tax reminder (V11) or the reg no AND a number off your log book (V5C)

Knowing the registration number alone is not enough sadly however you can do it on any smart phone with a debit card. The site will know if the car is insured and has an MOT (where needed) and won't allow you to tax it if either are missing.

Does anyone have a key to your house who can go in and get those details?

Tbh if you are only driving five miles you either risk it or get a taxi home and sort the tax and a taxi back. I would probably risk it.
