Can't belive its coming round so fast

Already having (very organised) family members asking what to get (dds onlt 9 months!)

So what are the best things to ask for?
from the pricey to not that pricey

cash!!

Only buy a couple of things because she wont know and she will grow so quickly.

A shape sorter and a noisy toy with batteries would be nice and put the rest away to buy something for the garden.

MerryMarigold · 21/04/2007 18:02

a tricycle with a long handle you can push (for next spring/ summer), a paddling pool, microwaveable plastic bowls and plates (they seem to be rare!), books, colouring/ painting stuff, simple puzzle, socks!, skittles

Sometimes better to say what you DON'T want eg. any more pink clothes, any more cuddly toys

Tomy Discovery Dome (£40) - dd (14 months) loves hers.

Sandpit + sand.

Chocolateface · 21/04/2007 19:06

Yes! the discovery dome. It's ace!

MorocconOil · 21/04/2007 19:23

Galt wooden trike. All my three loved it and played on it for hours and hours.

Jacanne · 21/04/2007 19:32

We got dd2 a Wheely Bug and she still loves it today (as does dd1 tbh).

MorocconOil · 21/04/2007 19:45

Yes agree about wheely bugs. We got a bee and a ladybird and they have been very-well used and look nice!

Chocolateface · 21/04/2007 20:20

Wheely bugs.... Got one for DD at christmas, she was 18 months, still hasn't' got the hang of it, but 4 year old and 8 year old zoom around on it all the time. And they look great.

Chocolateface · 21/04/2007 20:25

Builing blocks.
The Brio shape sorter looks cool.
A Venture(ot other) photo shoot.
I really fancy one of those pictures where they super-impose your DD onto a lilly pad with wings so she looks like a fiary. As adveritised in Junior magazine.
( yes I'm on the white wine!)
DS1 loved his Gault trike (actually we got him the Ikea one)
A rose bush - oh I really like tht idea!

southeastastra · 21/04/2007 20:27

nice beatrix potter china set that you can keep for years and then suddenly use

BirdyArms · 21/04/2007 20:28

Agree about wheely bugs, ours gets lots of use, is nice-looking and doesn't take up too much room. They seem expensive but well worth it.

WriggleJiggle · 21/04/2007 20:37

At a 1 year and 7 days old, dd's favourite toys are a playhouse, sandpit, paddling pool (acually she doesn't have one yet but she adores sitting in a plastic box filled with water so I guess it would be a favourite if she had one), and a ride on vehicle (she can't do it on her own but still loves it).

Hathor · 21/04/2007 20:41

Stacking cups
Plastic teaset
Simple pop-up books
No soft toys

glassslipper · 21/04/2007 20:44

i bought DD1 this and she still uses it 2 years on.

MuffinMclay · 22/04/2007 10:09

DS has his first birthday soon. We've bought him the Little Tikes Cosy Coupe car, a shape sorter, a few bath toys and books.

I've asked other people to either get books or put money into his trust fund.

sammysam · 23/04/2007 14:58

Thanks for all the ideas!
Love the wheely bugs-must get one-where sells them?

Are there any other toys that are really worth spending on?
DD really hasn't got much at the mo-i'm feling guilty stopping people buying her toys for christmas!!

MorocconOil · 23/04/2007 16:57

I think the Letterbox catalogue might do them. Ours were from a small independent toyshop in London. The other toy my kids have played in endlessly is one of those sun-know-how pop-up tents. We bought it for our first beach holiday with DS1 7 years ago and they are playing with it now inside the house.
