Baby monitors

Can anyone recommend a good monitor - I currently have a Tomy Walkabout which is unreliable and gets loads of interference. I am thinking of getting a two-way one. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Definitely the Phillips one.

It's brilliant. Zero interference, very small and the base unit can run on batteries whilst the parent uint is rechargeable. You can also adjust the sensitivity as well as the volume and it has talkback funstionality and a night light.

My friend thought it was so good she has ditched her Tomy and bought one too. And cos they're tuuned to different channels we can use them both in the same house without them interfering with each other.

Wouldn't buy it from Bay's R us though. Costco are selling it for £70.

I was thinking about getting that one, but on an earlier MN thread they referred to a design fault which meant that it discharged at night and set off an alarm at 3 a.m. - have the newer podels eliminated that fault?

Discharged at night? mmm I wouldn't know about that. We keep the parent unit on the charger during the day and it goes through the night easily. I suppose you could keep it on the charger if your worried, but I think it's supposed to last about 18 hours, but I can't remember.

One of the best things we bought. I can hear him breathing which is great, but if I turn the sensitivity down I can only hear louder noises, so I'm not listening to him snuffling all night.

you're not your... my but I'm getting lazy.....

We have two and agree they're the best. The problem about not charging is the contact made between the portable unit and the charging cradle. Unless you make double sure that it's secure in the cradle and the red charging light is on and stays on, if you've been using it for daytime naps and then again in the evening, you may find if it isn't getting charged properly at night and the alarm goes off. Since we've been assiduous about checking the red light's on before we go to sleep, they've been fine. Having two on the bedside table with two green lights and two red lights balring through the night is a bit like sleeping in a power station, but before anyone posts to tell me, I know we're anal, listening for every snuffle, but we have our reasons and wouldn't do it any other way.
PS they seem pretty solid too - having been dropped on wooden floors on countless occasions and once into a newly made cuppa.

oh and that's "blaring"

Won't find Kif calling anyone anal - I'm looking for a replacement to the 'Angelcare' sound and movement monitor. No reason at all to own one but can't sleep wihtout that reassuring 'tick' telling me that she's breathing.
