Anyone recommend a light-ish weight buggy from birth?

I've looked on the mumsnet guide but the Techno etc are a bit steep at £150. Any other recommendations?

I saw the Cosatto giretto single buggy in John Lewis priced at £79, it says its suitable from birth and looked quite good.

Have you looked at kiddicare.com - they often have dramatic reductions in price - you might get a techno cheaper - I got mine for £100 from a local shop as it had been in the window.

I bought a Graco lightrider from toys r us, its suitable from birth and its wonderfully light and easy to push, its also easy to put up and down whilst holding a baby and it cost less then £100 including cosy toes and rain covers.

Thanks bayleaf, they've got a Maclaren Vogue reduced from 129.99 to 69.99 which is brilliant and I may just buy one!

Enid, I started off with a Graco coachrider (3 in 1) for dd, unfortunately after about 9 months a problem developed with the chassis (? spelling) it was wobbling and one of the front wheels kept lifting off. Anyway Mothercare sent it back to Graco who, without any explanation, apology, please hope this won't put you off our products etc, just sent a note back to Mothercare saying "credit agreed" which meant money back. So I'm afraid I am not very impressed with Graco. It did however work out quite well, as I got to keep the carseat which may be useful if we have another baby and with the £190.00 I bought a Mothercare Rumba Stroller which was on offer at £75.00. Have been really, really pleased with it. So easy to push with the "Rotilt" handles, comes with groovy zip around cosytoe and really easy to attach raincover all included in the price. Also has decent size shopping basket. Is lightweight and very easy to put up and down. With the remaining money we bought a new forward facing Britax carseat and still had enough to put towards a second for our other car......so actually we did quite well out of Graco's defective pram.
Sorry this is a bit long winded. Hope you find a nice new pushchair

I have a Graco citysport which I think is too light because I've tripped & fallen on top of it a couple of times - hurt my knees but dd firmly strapped in and just looked bemused...
I always shoot admiring glances in the directino of pliko (?mamas & papas) pushchairs in the park...

Enid · 03/07/2002 13:51

I too covet the Pliko (mmm, denim colour) but I KNOW I won't use it for very long and by 6 months will want something lighter and more snippy. So can't justify spending £200 on it! Unfortunately

I've got a mothercare one - be blowed if I can remember the name of it mind you! It cost £79 (in spring2000 mind you), is umbrella folding, light to carry, came with hood and raincover (and I bought a cosytoe for £15) and has done two babies. It is a bright green/blue check if you want to look for it in the mothercare catalogue. I would highly recommend it.

susanmt · 03/07/2002 14:53

I found it - it's in the 'Strollers' section of the 'Travel' bit of mothercare.com It's caalled the Samba Blue Lagoon and is reduced at the moment to £69.99

I have the graco city sport which is useful as we live up two flights of stairs and I just carry it up, baby and all.

Can't for the life of me remember how much it cost.

Marina · 04/07/2002 18:33

We have a Citisport too but were told it was only for six months and above because it doesn't recline fully. Agree with Slug about how light it is, you can just toss it onto the bus (remove toddler first) with one hand.

Kyliebump · 08/07/2002 09:43

We've got a Graco Mirage which is really light and suitable from birth as it reclines fully. However, it only has two positions - fully reclined and bolt upright which doesn't look particularly comfortable - we'll cross that bridge when we come to it as DS is very comfortable in it reclined at the moment!!

Although it's very light, it isn't possible to collapse it with one hand, which is a bit of a pain for some buses, but luckily the buses near me have drop down floors so I can just wheel it on - what a fantastic invention. Pretty cheap too - I think £70-ish including raincover.

Graco city now says from birth on it (something about it being 30 degrees or lees so it qualifys). Unless you can get them on special offer (I got mine for £55) they are a bit steep for a stroller at £90 - £130. That said they are really nippy and light for every day use. Not sustantial enough for big long walks though.

Mothercares basic 3 wheeler may be more appropriate, its still light but excellent for long walks, We got ours for £69, but I think they are £79 now. Though mothercare is always doing special offers if you can wait or your could always open an account card just to buy it and you would then get the 10% off and the discount vouches they regularly send out.
