Stairgate for a dodgy bannister - KiddyGuard?

We need a stairgate for the top of our stairs. There is a solid wall at one side, but at the other side there is a wooden bannister which is slightly wobbly.
Is there any kind of stairgate that will suit it? I know the pressure ones wouldn't so we have considered the KiddyGuard (rollerblind style) but not sure if that would work either.
Do we just need to get the bannister sorted before even considering it (and if so, how!?)

Any advice?

Why do you think the pressure ones wouldn't work well? Is the baluster too narrow? You might find the roller blind one a bit of a pain at the top of the stairs because if you're anything like me you'll be up and down them all day. You can also get gates (we had three different ones!) where you drill into the wall and the wood. John Lewis used to sell them.

Re sorting the banister. Is it actually a newel post (i.e. the end one) or just a baluster? Newel posts are often fundamental to the construction of a staircase but balusters are often just glued in and can be replaced/reglued quite easily. Although unless you're quite handy you probably need to seek out a good carpenter/joiner locally.

don't get a kiddyguard they are rubbish. We had ours going across an awkward space and the dts learned to pull it loose at the bottom and crawl under it. The spring snapped on the one at the top and it went in the bin. They are a nightmare to open and close, and you can't do it one handed, so great fun when you have a baby in your arms. I think you will be fine with a pressure mounted one, but if not, jsut get a fixed one, with no trip bar that you screw in the fixings for. argos, mothercare, toysrus, etc. all still sell them.

I think we will get someone out to secure it and then go for a pressure one.
Thanks for the tips!
