"Raid" Fly and Wasp killer.......is there a alternative??

and no sorry I'm not talking about whacking them with newspaper/catching them and releasing outside/opening window until they fly out on their own.

I have a phobia of wasps - which I've managed to improve to be able to grab the spray - zap and run.......and repeat as much as nessecary - however "Raid" not only stinks it's pretty expensive too - however it is pretty quick (she says listening to the wasp she zapped 5 minutes ago still fighting for it's life .

I know I should be more environmentally friendly - but spraying them is quicker......what spray do you use???

Cheap hairspray, glues their wings together then you can bat them, cruel I know but effective, we are allergic to wasps/bees.

fannyannie · 17/04/2007 11:43

ooo never thought of hairspray - gotta smell nicer than Raid......presumably doesn't take long for it to 'stick' either does it??

So far, thankfully, don't seem to be passing on the phobia to the DS's - I try and make it a 'game' to see how quickly we can get rid of them.....and DS2 likes to have the honour of 'stamping' on them once they fall to the ground

its a solid gel thing like a solid air freshner use at night and by aq\the next morning it kills everything as it gives an aroma that flying htings dont like

sorry dd typing with me

catching them in a glass and releasing them is the quickest option i've found (i know you don't want to!)

fannyannie · 17/04/2007 11:55

lol SE - you're more likely to find me bungee jumping off the empire state building then white water rafting over Niagara falls than catching it in a glass

one of those electric fly swat thingies? (she says hoping someone will tell her if they are any good!)

Hilllary · 17/04/2007 22:12

ooh yes the electric zzzzzzzzzzzzt things they go with a right old zap, I think the sound of them dying would be annoying

I've purchased one of these for this year's attacks and I have been so impressed with it!! I started off just catching spiders but when a wasp came in, I managed to catch it midflight and by holding the button down to continue the vaccum whilst I took it outside, the wasp could not escape!!! Hooray!! I really put it to the test yesterday though when a HUGE Bumble Bee came in and I thought to myself that there was no way that my vaccum gadget would be strong enough for him but it was!!! My kids think I'm a hero and I haven't had to spray and run once yet this year. I'd highly recommend this product to anyone

Ooh JPM - I bought one of those too. It is absolutely the best money I have spent in a long time. Have used it sooooo many times already and I only bought it last week. Being the wuss I am where spiders are concerned it makes me feel much happier knowing I can zap them with my bug sucker-upper . In fact I use it for anything that moves (insect wise you understand!)
