Pushchair Advice Please

I am wondering whether I should get a better/lightre pushchair for DS. He has the mamas and papas travel system thing, and it's massive to carry around. It's soooo good out and about walking etc. but silly for shopping etc. I love the fact he faces me, and it's sturdy but I think I need something abit easier for small journeys. Any advice on what I should get? I hate with a passion tiny untra lightweight things, like you push dolls round in, so not any of those! thanks xxx

lightre = lighter

how old is he?
does he need to lie flat and/or face you?

(and don't knock the umbrella-folders till you've tried them, they are fabulous for buses, shopping, slinging in the boot etc)

Oh, he is 12 months, do like ones you can recline back if he falls asleep.

oh, right, so recline but not carrycot

Go to a big Mothercare or somewhere and just try him in a Techno or a Quest, or a Microlite even.
Practise going round corners up and down the aisles. You'll be converted I swear .

Or for light but not umbrella maybe something like the Graco Citisport or Mirage, or the M&P Aria...

I put him in beegees maclaren (?) and I felt like I was pushing a doll. Do any really lightweihgt umbrella thingys face you? thanks x

nope
there are dozens of MNers on a quest for such a pushchair - closest are the Bebeconfort Loola and the Bebecar R-versus but both weight a ton.

There's always the Quinny Buzz but it doesn't recline as such, the seat just tips back so they end up with legs in air.

(NB surely if it was easy as pushing a doll that'd be a good thing...)

how about getting the mpx(?) chassis, then you can use the same seat unit etc but makes it slightly smaller

hippipotami · 16/04/2007 12:10

Oh, do try a Maclaren Techno. You will be converted, honestly!!

i love my micralite - it is lightweight but not too. It folds with one hand - essential with a 1yo and a 2yo! It has pnematic rear tyres and is very easy to push one handed. Has two seat positions and is great for public transport as I cannot drive.

Only downside is that the shopping basket is sometimes difficult to get too, and the buggy will fall backwards if too much placed on handles. There is no such thing as the ultimate buggy but it does tick alot of boxes for me

Quootiepie · 16/04/2007 12:35

oh, good point, but still quite bulky (about the MPX chassis). I guess I will have a look at a big mothercare someday soon and just try them out. Strange no one has invented a lightweight one that faces you yet, all do seem to be bulky.

it's the folding mechanism - the engineer who invented the umbrella-fold made the seat an integral bit of the frame which is how come they fold so neatly, but there's no way tohave it rear-face and still retain the folding mechanism.

Hopefully some other aeronautical engineer is working on a new version...
