Tescos school trousers - only OK for chubby boys

I know we've been here before, and it's really boring ...

I bought Tescos boys school trousers today, and they are HUGE around the waist. DS1 certainly isn't chubby, but I wouldn't describe him as skinny either, and the trousers just won't even begin to stay up. DS2 is quite skinny, and he could fit a big cushion down the front of his!

Last year we bought ASDA trousers, which were a better fit, but disappointing quality.

Any recommendations gratefully received.

I've had this problem too. Matalan just dropped off DS1, who too is slim (not skinny). I've ended up going to a specialist schoolwear shop and measuring the waistbands of their trousers/shorts. The problem is that DS1 can't just wear a younger age in shorts because they cut him in half vertically whilst fitting beautifully horizontally, IYSWIM. And in trousers the length is wrong.

The shop I've used is Wards. Don't know if there is one near you.

Primark do nice skinny jeans. My kids aren't school age yet, but I think they do school clothes too.

I've bought DS1's school trousers from Next, they were far slimmer fitting than Marks & Spencer (which were like clown's trousers). He still needs a belt with them though. This is our first experience with school clothes so can't comment on how well they wear, I suppose we'll soon see.

roisin, thank you for the opposite reason - "robust" is the word for my ds (not fat just very broad from shoulders down), and Gap, Woolies & M&S all strain round him - and as for anything on the posh end like Monsoon or House of Fraser, impossible. So maybe all of those would work for you, while I make for Tescos.

Our DS1 is quite slim (ok possibly skinny). I actually got him trousers from my local market as they were the first ones I noticed with a belt. I didn't have DS1 with me for him to try them on, but experience with his other trousers/jeans/trackies meant that the chances are he would need a belt. I was amazed as they fit him perfectly round the waist (with a little room for expansion after lunch) and he doesn't need the belt for these. A bargain in my book as they were only £6 a pair and they are still in great condition despite numerous falls etc in the playground.
