Don't have to do stew type things in them, can do chilli, bolognese etc

Chandra · 19/07/2004 00:07

I really don't know if it makes life more efficient because you need to prepare things with time and let them cook for hrs so, if you prepare and cook the dish one day before and pop it in the microwave or reheat it afterwards is quite actually the same (without the worry that is going to burn down while you are at work).

We got one and used twice a week for two weeks, end of the story...

But we also got a pasta maker that we used ONCE (the most expensive pasta ever...), so probably we are hopeless but these things are OK

havent got a slow cooker but got a copper based stock pot and it was the best thing i have ever brought it works basicaly the same as a slow cooker but dont leave it on when you go out like tinker i use mine for chilli bolognase you can cook all your root veg in one pot save on washing up and plus with it being copper base if you bring something to the boil and you need to let it simmer just turn the hob of because the copper releases heat slowly best buy i ever brought

I have one of thes bloss, I love it. I have the sort where there is a separate pan and base, the pan is like a normal saucepan.

I use it mainly in the winter for stews etc. I have a timer that I plug it into, I put all the ingredients in the night before and bung in fridge, then put it on the plate in the morning and set it to come on 4 or 5 hours before I want it. Come home to lovely smelling house and no cooking!

One warning, it does tend to make the sauce rather thin so make sure you over-thicken it to start with.

CountessDracula · 19/07/2004 12:57

so in answer to your q no you only need the one pot.

CountessDracula · 19/07/2004 13:04

here it is!

Says is not in stock - don't know if they make it any more but I have had the other sort and they aren't as versatile as this one

I love mine bloss - I do a gorgeous, cheats beef bourgoinone (sp?) that even my fussy tots will eat.

No need to pre-cook or anything - just chuck in a couple of packs of stewing/braising steak, two tins of condensed campbells tomato soup, couple of chopped up green peppers and some baby button mushrooms, plus a dash of worcester sauce. Leave for approx 5 hours on a low heat, add a pot of sour cream at the end and serve with rice or noodles. Absolutely gorgeous. The meat is so tender it just falls apart.

Hiya, I've got the same one as CountessDracula and at times it has proved a real life saver. If you know you're going to be out all day and unlikely to want to cook when you come home, they are fab. I do chilli, stew, bolognaise, curries, everything in mine and although I don't use it that often, I wouldn't be without one.
