did you regret buying a cute/themed/junior children's bed?

When DS was ready to go into a bed we'd been given a Little Tikes car bed which was just perfect as it was quite small and very low to the ground.
He then moved into a normal single bed about 1 year later.

DD is going to be out of her cot soon and we don't know whether to just convert the cot bed to the bed and start with that, get her a pretty girlie themed junior bed or just get the same single bed that DS has got (part of the Domino range from John Lewis and then when they are older, one of them might like to have bunk beds for sleep overs and we can just buy the attachments).

Any thoughts and advice gratefully received as always.

Normal single beds are great. You can then just decorate the room as they get older. I never got the idea of themed or junior beds.

Wish I had never bought ds1 a junior bed, it's just too flimsy and it can't fit either me or dp on v.well to read stories, cuddle etc. One of us has broken a slat now so we'll have to get a new one soon anyway! I was worried about him being too high up (he was 2.6 when we moved him) but he's absolutely fine on the single bed at my mum's!

I just put both DS and DD straight into bog standard (but reasonable quality - £200) pine slatted beds with a bedside that somebody gave me. The beds match but would not make into bunk beds but would both fit in DS's room as twin beds.

thanks guys.
I wanted to get the normal single bed but DH thought a lower girlie themed bed would be 'nice'. He agrees with me that mumsnetters usually know best though so a normal single bed it is.

mckenzie, so glad, I also allowed the cost of two matresses, one that lasted until they had got over the short bed wetting/accident stage, and then a more expensive one.

If you get one without a devan base you can fit much more underneath in nice storage tubs and they are sometimes not as high off the ground as those with drawers under.
