I'm thinking about getting a 3 wheeler when I have my baby. Problem is, there seems to be so much choice out there. What would be really great is some advice from people who have actually used them!

I have a mamas & papas 3 wheeler one, my friend has just borrowed it for her new born, i love it, easy to push & lovely & comfy for dd

Hopeitwontbebig · 09/04/2007 18:34

Is it easy to fold, put in boot, steet etc? My husband has only got the use of one arm...

steet, what does steet mean..... I meant steer

It may not be good for someone who only has the use of one arm because to fold it you do have to twist these things on each side at the same time then it will collapse down so this may be difficult. It is very easy to push & steer though. HTH

I've just posted on the other thread about the urban detour which i think is great. You can push it with one hand, no problems, but collapsing it would not be possible.

NannyL · 09/04/2007 19:26

if you want one for proper outdoor off roading and for more than one baby (not at the same time) then definitley go for the mountain buggy, as they last and last and i have known lots that have done 3 children with lots of life left in them!

should you be potentially having another baby in the next couple of years buy a phil and teds, so it can turn into a double, then back to a single again

If you want to use it off of pavements etc (ie in the woods on beaches, country walks etc) for for ones with big wheels made of real tyres (NOT pastic little ones ie cheep graco one) as they are SOOOO much better. oh and a fixed front wheel or at least a locakable front wheel

Ok they do (occasionaly) get punctures (which is a bit of a nightmare) but they are easily fixable with a puncture repair kit

NannyL · 09/04/2007 19:27

agh... both of those require 2 hands to collapse

misdee · 09/04/2007 19:27

mountain buggy is the best are easiest to fold.

booge · 09/04/2007 19:28

Mountain buggy, I loved my single and now have the double. I tried the Phil and Teds but it didn't suit me and I'm going to sell it however my friend loves hers.

booge · 09/04/2007 19:29

Mountain buggy is quite big for the boot though.

misdee · 09/04/2007 19:31

new urbun detours are one handed fold i think, but heavy.

coleyboy · 09/04/2007 19:31

Quinny Speedi SXI. Great off-roader, and great for the pavement. Was recommended in Which? magazine.

misdee · 09/04/2007 19:31

Mountain buggy may be big but it is lighter than most.

mrsdarcy · 09/04/2007 19:36

I have the InStep one and it's great. It has a fixed front wheel, which means that to steer it you need to tilt it up onto its back wheels. It's lovely and light though. The things I'd change about it are:

swivling front wheel
bigger shopping basket (although maybe this isn't possible with a 3-wheeler)
better rain cover - there are 2 plastic hooks at the front of the rain cover, which hook over the axle of the front wheel. The hooks have come off now and I don't know the best way of fixing them.

misdee · 09/04/2007 19:37

mrsdarcy the nipper does now have a swivelling front wheel.

lackofgravitas · 09/04/2007 19:38

Slime is excellent for damage limitation on punctures, as NannyL says, they're a bit of a nightmare (three-wheelers can be just about immovable with a flat tyre). Slime stops the tyre deflating - we've had a load of punctures in ours but nothing that actually stopped the pushchair in its tracks. Well, not until the tyres wore out and we ended up with an inch-diameter hole in the inner tube, Slime won't deal with that.

Hilllary · 09/04/2007 19:40

Phil & Teds without a doubt, I take mine everywhere, on sandy beach, up hills, on muddy ground you name it, baby is always comfortable & content plus theres an extra seat for a toddler should you need it.

Lightweight, compact & practical.

mrsjohnsimnelcake · 09/04/2007 19:51

mountian buggy is the baest tyoe IMO.
I have had 8 buggies overall, 2 kids.
And the MB tyoe is the best... just can't say much more.
The urban is big but the wheel swivels and it is very very easy to get around.. The terrain is smaller and narrower and the front wheel is fixed- good for rough ground, little bit more diff to steer in town, but so light you just pick the front wheel up by tipping it a bit.
I love them both and have experience with urban detour- cheapand clunky, jane- expensive and gratey, and 4 wheeler buggies- just hard to push
hth now where's my sponsership money fron MB?

mrsjohnsimnelcake · 09/04/2007 19:52

phil and teds, too heavy and clunky compared with the MB, i got rid of phil mand teds as too heavy,i knwe how light the mountain buggy was form having had the urban with one child.

Hopeitwontbebig · 09/04/2007 20:05

So far, is mountain buggy fave then? Not too concerned about one handed fold for DH, more ease of steering etc.

Baby jogger THE BEST

cazzybabs · 09/04/2007 20:13

He ought to try them to see how easy they are to push one handed. I too love my MB - it is brill and very light.

cazzybabs · 09/04/2007 20:15

The other problem he might have it stapping your db in one handed.

mrsdarcy · 09/04/2007 20:25

Thanks Misdee ...I can't justify buying another pushchair even if it does have a lovely swivling front wheel

misdee · 09/04/2007 20:27

i have a MB, use it one handed round the farm the other day as was holding onto sparklys dd1 with the other hand.
