Artex/Embossed Wallpaper Dilemma

The people who we bought our new(ish) house from very kindly decorated the hall/stairs/landing and living room with a horrible embossed paper, and the wall and ceiling above the dado rail in the living room is artexed - I can't bear the thought of stripping the paper as they have made such a good job of it throughout, but WHY OH WHY did they have to choose embossed, it's not my taste at all...I've read about a product called Impasto (?) by Paint Magic which is a kind of very thick paint, which is supposed to cover it and was wondering if anyone had tried the same thing and if it worked (or is there any other product you could recommend?

Thank you!!!

imo repaper or you will always regret not doing it at the start. Thick paint products are good at masking poor plaster/paper but will not mask embossed paper. Artex ceiling, aggghhh. Knock off the tips (can use plaster plane thingy, dont know what they are called) and reskim.

we are in the same boat - be careful with artex, depending on age of house/when you think artexing was done as it can contain asbestos so safest bet is to either plaster board/or wood panel the wall or use 'smooth over' we have some in our shed waiting to be used, think its by polycell? new product been advertised on tv recently. sounds similar to what you are describing. its quite a specialist finish so phone around before you go to builders merchants/diy store. and because its so thick and gloopy you may need a couple of tubs.
good luck
