Why does no-one sell these in the UK?

Okay, all I'm looking for is a parasol for a buggy with some uv protection. You could spit peas through the ones in mothercare and the likes, so I can't see how they can keep out much UV . Have found a couple on the web, but no-one seems to ship to the uk. (oh, Bugaboo do a good one, but I have a M&P). Anyone come across such a thing?

Hi noseynora, haven't seen any buggies but spiritofnature.co.uk do a cover (kind of like a raincover) that blocks out uv! hth!

noseynora · 05/04/2007 23:33

Thanks redclover, I think I know the thing you mean. If I can't find a parasol I might end up getting one of these.. but I'm amazed that you can't get a uv parasol in the uk.

No not seen anything for buggys, I have a coach pram & have a parisol with UV protection which they now do, You'd have thought they'd have their act together and make something useful

noseynora · 05/04/2007 23:36

Hillary, do you think the type you have would fit onto a buggy?

Necessity is the mother of all invention...sounds like a nifty business idea to me

noseynora · 05/04/2007 23:39

Maybe i should get myself onto dragons den

Yeah, but that sour-faced old cow would probably give it the no-no (she really does need a good, hard shag).

Hilllary · 05/04/2007 23:41

Not sure, you could probably strap it down in some way or another, they are pretty large though, do you know the old Silver Cross Coach built prams? the sun canopys they used to make for them are exactly the same but they now have a UV protection on them.

If you have a look at www.babybirds.co.uk they do all the accesories for the Coach prams, it will have them listed along with a picture

noseynora · 05/04/2007 23:43

Cheers Hillary, will have a look. However I'm thinking one standard flimsy parasol, some tinfoil and double-sided sticky tape. Anyone want to buy one?

Good idea but be careful they dont try to cart you off to the nut house with all that tin foil

AitchTwoOh · 06/04/2007 00:00

can you unhook your buggy hood as the back and push it forward to make a shade? that's what i do with ours.

noseynora · 06/04/2007 00:02

I'll give it a go.

think the lady who started this has advertised on here too.

They have UV coating BUT of course they are out of stock

noseynora · 06/04/2007 00:10

Rant alert.
Where's the benefit in buying one of these with disclaimers like this on Mothercare's website:

"Must be angled to shade baby. Does not offer UV protection so the usual precautions must be taken"
(Mothercares own range of parasols)

Is that not the point in getting one of these things

Rant over

Came across her website on my frantic search. Seems a good idea but they look rather large or maybe I'm just being picky now.

bumpto3 do a rayshade thing for buggies which has UPF 50+.

Rayshade

noseynora · 06/04/2007 21:06

Ah, that might be better actually. Thanks for that Seona - I thought there must be someting out there somewhere
