we are supposed to be going to buy it tomorrow. we are decorating the feature wall in 'cookie dough' (light brown) and the rest in soft stone. anyway, we are torn between getting rustic oak or beech laminate. my sofas are cream. we have a bookshelf, sideboard and tv unit in beech already and wondered if beech floor would look too much with the beech furniture as well? or if the oak would look too odd against the beech?? help!!!

we have beech unit with beech flooring. Looks ok

I think I would stick with the beech seeing as you already have beech furniture. You could always break up the 'too much beech' effect with a nice rug.

Too much beech! Go for oak. much nicer to have a bit of contrast otherwise looks weird IMHO Especially with a pale sofa.

aaargh!! split decisions!!

oak flooring much nicer

Oak is nice but can be quite yellow in tone, whereas beech is a much "pinker" wood.
How about sth a bit darker to add some contrast and so it doesn't look like you tried to match your furniture and failed (as oak might do)?

are rustic oak and beech the only two you like?

AnAngelWithin · 06/04/2007 10:05

the beech and the oak are the only 2 in the offer! lol

i would choose oak.

(but then, i just filled almost the whole house with oak flooring, so i guess i would say that!)

oak looks more classic, and will support both traditional and modern furniture looks. so will look 'current' for longer. imo.
