I need a framed back carrier suitable for a very short person (me, not DS!)

We have a wacking great Macpac Vamoose, but it is huuuge, and I would like a smaller, more lightweight one for me to use in more urban environments (or at least not on mega hikes!)

Any recommendations, please? I definitely want the framed sort, not the Ergo/bigmama sort (lovely but not for me).

Thank you in advance .

Well I clicked on this to rave about my babytrekker, recommended to me by another MNer, but as you're looking for a frame, I'll have to go away again. Why do you want a frame? Don't they bang against the back of your neck 'coz they nearly break mine!(I'm 5'0)

OK, the babytrekker could be a go-er - it looks more structured, IYKWIM. I'm just rubbish with these ones you have to wrap around you - I had a sling like that and never used it.

Rave away .

OK, it's just fab. It's a little bit complicated to start off with, but comes with a good instruction manual. Involves a bit of wrapping round to carry a baby on the front, but none at all on the back. You put it on a chair or the floor, sit or lie baby in it, strap it round your waist, then put your arms through the arm straps and pull it up. Much simpler to do than to explain. I got it for dd (2nd baby) because I wanted a sling i could use front or back. Used it for her from day one and she's now 2.4 and still uses it about once a week, if we're going for a longish walk. When you're not using it, it folds into it's own picket, so it's really self contained, you can stick it in a bag or under a pram, and it gives you a huge amount of flexibility for two kids, especially if they don't want to be in it all the time.
I'm now using it again for the baby I childmind, who just loves being carried, so she pops on my back while I do stuff with the older kids, and that way she's still got my full attention (or thinks she has!)
The best bit of baby kit I've ever bought.

It does sound (and look) very cool. Did you get it from Little Green Earthlets? And £50ish is cheaper than every framed one I've seen.

Ooh, just found my original thread! Bloss recommended it. I got mine direct from www.babytrekker.com - can't remember how much it cost exactly, because it was in Canadian dollars. I thought twice about it because it seemed more than other non-framed carriers, but it has been a really good investment, been using it several times a week for over two years now, and no signs of wear and tear at all. It flings in the washing machine too if it gets manky.

Brilliant, thank you so much

no probs at all, just hope I didn't sound too much like an advert!

FromGirders · 02/04/2007 21:20

Oh, and if you do get it, let me know how you get on .

littleEasterlapin · 02/04/2007 21:30

Yeah, if I order it and it says "Make cheque payable to FromGirders", I shall be suspicious!

Cheers Loopsy but I am a rabbit of very little brains with these things, no coordination or spatial awareness etc, your DD always looks v comfy but I have visions of DS sliding through, landing on the pavement and me wandering off without him!
