there are mouse poohs all over the kids toys - any ideas how to get rid?

they have most probably nested underneath it. the best way to get rid is poison, but only do this if you have no pets

Blu · 02/04/2007 18:06

Traps.

TeeCee · 02/04/2007 18:08

Get a rat!

Wolfgirl · 02/04/2007 18:12

a rat? well, what if they are rats? I dont know the difference between mouse and rat poohs - suppose I will have to get a trap, the thought of poison is horrid, so it a trap come to that. oh darn the blighters!

don't use poison as they then go off and die a painful death somewhere where you can't get to them. Just use basic mousetraps loaded with chocolate and check twice a day to start then every day when they start to get less. Unfortunate but quick for the mouse but effective.

Nbg · 02/04/2007 18:18

Humane mouse traps are better IMO.
They love Rolos so use them. But you have to keep checking otherwise they die if you leave it too long.

Rat poo is massive. Mouse poo is little tiny things.

Wolfgirl · 02/04/2007 18:24

then they are mouse poohs. will look into getting humane traps over weekend. sorry LO's crying and doing my head in. aaarrgghhhh....

Yuck! At least you don't have rats in your shed like us I can recommend the poison. I am a complete wimp and couldn't deal with disposing of dead mice.

Blu · 02/04/2007 19:31

Well, you can get rid of them, or you can be nice to them.

Humane traps are a complete waste of time and money, they just scamper right back. And you have to deal with the damn wriggling live mouse.

Proper traps and / or poison.

amateurmum · 02/04/2007 19:38

You need a cat! We live in a fairly rural setting and have had mice problems (and rats occasionally from farm) but cat has totally eradicated them! ONly problem is picking corpses off doorstep...

Plibble · 02/04/2007 19:40

Traps set with peanut butter. Don't use anything solid as bait as they snaffle it and make off back to their nests giggling. Peanut butter is sticky and they have to touch it properly in order to get a decent mouthful, so they set the traps off.

It's a bit grim cleaning up the little mouse bodies, but not as grim as you might expect and at least it is a quick death.

Wolfgirl · 02/04/2007 19:49

oh s--t, what have we become??? back in the good old cave man days we wouldnt have blinked at something like this... bashing a mouse on the head, but I cant stomach it. We have ONE cat to share around all the houses - that I know of! but it cant get under or in the shed. Im just going to have lay the traps and get rid. I have a 15 months old rattling around and dont want her scooping up the poop. darn darn darn - hate this sort of thing. grrrrrrr...

Sorry to hi-jack this thread - but I think there are rats living under next-doors conservatory.

Only problem is they have dug under the fence & started raiding our recycle tub for nest paper!

How do you sort out rats - both next door & us have dogs so poison is going to be a problem.

Is there such a thing as a rat trap & will this deal with a whole family!!

Wolfgirl · 06/04/2007 20:50

oooh horrid!!!!! hope you get some replies to help you hun.xx

UPdate: put down the Humane trap with honey at one end. Took a about 3 days before I trapped my first mouse. Took it to the fields. However, its quite evident that the shed is infested and so I think I will have to ring the council / pest control. Real shame tbh. In addition, Im not sure that taking the mice to the field is actually doing them a favour - how long will they last. It might be better that they did die, gonna look on the internet for some advice.

anyone else got any advice, would be nice to hear from you xx

we have one of those plug in pest things. Emits a frequency they don't like - seems to work too !

diddle · 09/04/2007 18:25

Yes we've got a plug in, once had mice in the loft and don't want them again!
we used posion and they went, eventually they learn not worht coming in here because there's no food worth having.

If you call pest control they will definitly use poison, but then the problem is totally controlled by them which is easier for you.
Horrible little things. i know its cruel to kill them but they are pests.

Did you know that they constantly wee, everywhere they go, i'd sterilise your kids toys esp if you have younger ones who like to suck on handle bars etc.

Wolfgirl · 10/04/2007 08:55

Aaaarrggghhhhhhh! I plugged two holes with wire wool yesterday, placed the trap with honey again, but put out a bit of cheese to see if they found other routes in! blinkin cheese gone and no mouse in the trap!

What are these devices you ladies are using, if they work, I'll get one of those xxxx

Wolfgirl · 10/04/2007 11:30

...have called the council and going to get Pest Control in; cost £42.42, they come and lay the bait, then come back in a couple of weeks to see if it works, but I so hate the thought of poison. Poor things writhing around in agony. who would want to go through that kind of death! not me!

OP posts:
Wolfgirl · 10/04/2007 11:32

...oh and did anyone know this!!!! its ILLEGAL to catch a live mouse and take it down the fields, a chargeable offence!!!! get the hand cuffs out I said, how stupid! why then do the hardware stores sell the Humane traps! anyone know?
