question about swim nappies

Hiya I got a mothercare swim nappy for my DS to use in his paddling pool this summer. Is it meant to be used AS a nappy or as a cover OVER a nappy?

Is it one that looks like a pair of swimming trunks? If so, I use them and have always just used them on their own - never thought otherwise and now wondering if DS has been peeing in the pool all this time because I didn't put another nappy on underneath

Used mine as a nappy, ie nothing underneath. If you use washable nappies you could probably put one underneath if you really wanted to, but a disposable would get wet.

I don't think you can get any swim nappies designed to hold wee in, they would have to be absorbant which is no good in water. they're only designed to hold in poo! I think the swim nappy you've got is designed to be used just as a nappy on its own - to catch poo!

I use disposables but have reusables I could line this nappy with if I want... ok thanks it would seem its meant to be used on its own not on top of a disposable!

i think for the paddling pool it is fine (our ds goes naked in this!). also now our ds is 16mo we use it in the public pool too with no nappy. when he was a smaller baby i used to use the disposable swim nappies as I think they are at least a bit absorbent and would be more likely to keep one of those horrid runny poos in!
