my dd is 4.5 and adores hers, she has had some motor difficulties with low muscle tone and pooor eyesight but is very adept at the climbing frame
plus you cna get add ons for toddler/younger kids
Top investment BTW
Look on ebay for ones near you to save a packet

We've got the Explorer, and that site gives its height as 200cm and the Challenger as 206, so pretty similar. Dd could climb on ours pretty confidently at 3, so I should think a 4.5 year old would be fine.

thank you-have been trying to get one on ebaywith no success yet,I can get a 25% discount at John Lewis so may get new and hope for a good resale value.Second hand are going for £200 ,obviously with some extras added on though.

Just came on to ask pretty much the same question. I think we've pretty much decided to get one for our 3 and 5 yr olds. 25% discount is great ggirl - do you get that through their website? Our local toyshop said they give 10% disc on orders over £100 and would work something out when I go in to order next week - am hoping to get a bit more than the 10% cos it costs an absolute fortune! BTW, what accessories are you thinking of getting?

We've got the explorer and it's great, had it for about 2 years now. Dd is 5.1, ds1 3.5 and ds2 11 weeks so he hasn't used it yet lol. We had it with the toddler run at first the den and now it's at the bigger height and also wavy slide bottom. Gets loads of use and is fab.

Legacy · 31/03/2007 21:04

Yes we've had one (as pictured) for about 3 years now. It has two heights - toddler and full, and we put it up to full height just before ds2 was 4 last year, so it's fine for 4 year olds. Still best to supervise them though, and to discourage them from standing up on the bridge and jousting/ having sword fights, as it IS possible to fall off

thanks everyone
millie-I have a friend who works for JL and she will beable to purchase it on my behalf. Not strictly allowed but she hardly ever uses her staff discount.
We were hoping to get the den, wavy slideand the toddler run thing that stops them falling through the top.Ds is quite a cautious child and I have friends with younger ones.
Would also like the steering wheel.
Tbh we'll probably get the basics and add things on when he gets birthday money in september.

DS2 has never experienced our explorer at toddler height because of his older siblings, so he's been using it at full height from about 18mths!! Not unsupervised, naturally (apart from the first time, when we had no idea he'd attempt it, never mind make it to the top and crawl across the monkey bars). Saw him six foot up and bolted from our seats to rescue him (which he was having none of, I might add)!! He thinks he's invincible. He's three now and perfectly competent.

Ive just managed to buy the Explorer off eBay, so am hoping it will last a while for my kids.

I do have a triple swing A frame for sale - in Bristol, if anyone interested. Dont want much - About £50 or less even. can email me for more details, or see the For Sale thread, its listed there. xx
