I thought that after 5 months of being a sruffy, frizzy haired, and permenantly sicked on mummy, it was time I dragged out all my old beauty products and started making myself look and feel a bit better. Unfortunatley, my hair straighteners have given up on me.....I am going shopping later and want to get some new ones. The one I had was round, more like a hot brush, but I have seen some that are like hot plates?? Any ideas? I dont want to spend a fortune on them.

GHD are the ones that most people swear by (£90-ish), though if you're looking for cheaper I think that the Nicky Clarke equivalent are pretty good. It is on Amazon for £24. There are also cheaper slimline ones on there for £16-ish, but I've used the £24 one and found it to be a godsend for frizz!

I've got Nicky Clarke straighteners but not the ones that ladymuck has shown you, mine were £60 from Boots. They were recommended to me by my sister who had GHD ones but told me that these were just as good HTH

Just look at the variation in price fro a decent haircut! It's big money these days!

I got some Hair Tools ceramic ones for £30 off a hairdressing wholesaler who advertise on ebay - you can see them here

I got this from a thread on here before - someone else recommended them. They're really good straighteners & were delivered really quickly with no hassle.

I've got the hair tools ones - have used them ever day for months and months and they are great. They are just like the GHD ones as far as I can tell and worth every penny - they are SO easy to use. I wash my hair, let it dry naturaly then straighten them (don't use any oils etc) and my hair is still in v good condition apparently!!

lonelymumof3 · 17/07/2004 13:45

wheres the best place to get them from?

I can recommend the REmington ceramic onces- I too had a baby 5 months ago and recently decided to try to do something woth my appearance! They cost me £24 and are excellent with my wavy hair. I actually saw them in an Avon catalogue that my neighbour gave me for about £5 if you bought any 2 items from their hair range. HTH

Definitely go for the ceramic ones - they don't dry your hair out so much. I got mine from Argos - babylis I think and they are brilliant.

GHS - £29 .

Am always recommending these - just like GHD but 1/3 the price. Nobody ever takes any notice though. My DDs both have them and think they're brill.
