Don't turn it on until its dried out. Cross fingers and hope

Stick it in rice and leave it 24 hours minimum

JoWithABow · 12/08/2017 21:08

Put it in airing cupboard too if you have one

outabout · 12/08/2017 21:15

Take the battery out, although by now it is probably a bit late, although if you are putting it into a warm airing cupboard it would be safer with the battery removed. Don't put the battery into the airing cupboard, it doesn't need to be 'dried' as thoroughly as the rest of the phone.

Thank you, i have put in the airing cupboard in some rice, battery seperate, will see in the morning if it has worked

By turning it on while wet it has probably shorted the circuit board. The rice thing is a myth and doesn't work. Sometimes wet phones can continue going for several months and then suddenly go doolally (like mine). The circuit board can be fixed in some older phones but not in newer ones.

Getting a battery out of a wet phone as quickly as possible is important. The power being present causes 'oxidisation' of connections which eventually weaken, or contaminants in the water can make a small electrochemical reaction. Many modern circuit boards are actually washed in (pure) water as part of the production process but they have NO power applied and are air dried quickly afterwards. It is the combination of the voltage provided by the battery, and dirty water (which usually conducts electricity) that causes the main problems.
In theory whipping a battery out then rinsing gear is PURE water (demineralised) then drying quite quickly should sort most things out.
Not had the nerve to try it on an expensive smartphone for 'fun' though!

Rice should absorb the water, which is very helpful if you want your phone to work again.Depending on the situation, it can take overnight to three days. You could leave it in for three to five days to be completely sure before switching it on again.

Rice, if it is really dry should absorb water quite well but silica gel would be better.
