Time has come for me to buy a double buggy! Anyone any opinions on the Maclaren Twin Triumph

I'm looking to buy a double buggy for ds1 who is 2.10 and new baby due in June. I'd really hoped ds1 would be happy to jog along next to the baby, but he still seems to like his pushchair especially if we are out and about for a long time.

Sooo, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy a double buggy. Phil and Teds looks great, but can't justify spending £400 on a double pushchair especially as ds1 is almost 3.

I need something that will fit through standard doors, is lightweight and also lies fairly flat for a newborn baby (suitable from birth). I've seen the Maclaren Twin Triumph on Kiddicare which is reasonably priced. Has anyone used this and liked it or had any problems? Or is there anything else you can recommend?

Any advice would be great.

i personally HATE double maclaren style buggies. Unless you are on perfectly flat land they are a nightmare to push.... esp if one side is much heavier than the other.

Could you get a second hand phil and teds.

they really are IMO worth every penny, and can then turn into a single when the eldest walks.

I had to borrow one of these when our powertwin was being fixed and it was awful. As the weigh wasn't easily distributed it was really awkward to push , and the handles v far apart too, felt like I was pushing a tank
you get what you pay for, what about buying on ebay, or selling your double on in a few months when yoyu don't need a double?
or what a bout a sling fr the first few months and a single for the toddler?

As softmusk has said what about a buggy board. I am getting one as dd will be 3 when i have dc2.

I cannot justify the expense of getting a double buggy to be used for a short period of time. I don't have a car so we are always walking, most friends live a mile of so away which just to far for her to walk.

I had a Twin Traveller (baby and toddler) and thought it was pretty good. I lived up a very steep hill at the time and had to push it up and down there several times a day - can't say it was easy, but it was perfectly stable. Very hard-wearing too - used to stuff mine full of shopping and kids' paraphernalia and it never complained. We sold it on for a reasonable price (about £50, I think). Mind you, I've never tried other doubles so have nothing to compare it to.

I have a cosatto duet lite. It folds away to nothing (great for the car), it was cheap, it's tandem - so I can get through doors -, and the back goes flat and is really snug. It also looks tiny compared to other tandems. Ds1 (3.5) also loves it. Would look on the net for a deal. It's half the price of a P&T and the resale value, currently, is quite high. If there's a big weight difference the 2 those that are side by side can be hard to steer (apart from accessibility).

Hi, thanks for all your advice Think I'll go out this weekend and test a few. Cosatto Duet Lite looks pretty good so will def check that out.

I would love phil and teds but just too expensive at the moment even though I could re-sell on ebay. DS sometimes sleeps in his pushchair as well if we are out all day, so a buggy board would be good for some trips, but not if we were out for a long time.
