Can anyone recommend one of the new-style (at least I think so) wooden balance bikes ? For my son aged 2 1/2 but with long legs ! Thanks this is my first post, how did I cope before ?

Excellently, and what a fab and succinct name .

Now - what is a balance bike?

Furball · 28/03/2007 20:40

or, you can just buy a small normal bike and take the pedals off, that way you can use the bike when he learns to balance.

Hi, there was a conversation on here yesterday about like-a-bike and something called puky. Go to 'search for messages' and put in the word 'puky' then put yesterday as the date. Also a general hunt for like-a-bike will get you there. Welcome!

Not wooden, but Puky do two different sizes AFAIK.

Oh, I saw the likeabikes at the Cycle Show, they looked cooool.

balance bikes at Cyclesense

This is our local bike shop, but I think they do mail order too. Only a small place, but very hepful family run, so you could try calling them for advice? As Furball has suggested, I know that Cyclesense have suggested to friends that they remove the pedals on a normal bike as an alternative.

Got a small bike at local recycling centre (the tip) for £2.50 and took pedals off worked wonders, plus was able to use it as a normal bike when dd learn to ride it.
Must be able to put feet flat on the ground to work.

Thanks all, great tip re removing stablisers, down to the bike shop this weekend. "Puky" might be too good a name to resist tho . . . .

I'm sure you didn't mean to type "stabilisers"...but just in case...it's the actual pedals that need to come off, too

mollymay · 28/03/2007 22:13

I got one for my son from ELC
