7 seaters & DPFs

We'd decided to switch to a 7 seater and started doing research.

Most of them are diesel and I've noticed a lot of chat about DPF problems.

We do about 10k miles a year. That's mostly short urban with a monthly blast firm the motorway.

Is that usage reasonable for a modern diesel? Or are we looking for trouble?

We were thinking Peugeot 5008 type car, c2012.

Tks.

If that is the case then you will be fine with a Diesel

I have run diesels for years and only once had a DPF problem. It was a 2010 Peugeot that had done over 100k by 2014 (when we had fault)

10k is a very normal annual mileage

Sorry meant to add your monthly blast should keep things in order. Mine was doing town miles 95% of the time

I know they can be cleaned, DH has done it a couple of times. Didn't seem to take him long.

Ours needs a blast on the motorway every so often to clear it out and it's fine but assuming you're in the uk I wouldn't buy a diesel now.

Why not?

Tks for the reassurance everyone.

I've got a diesel zafira tourer..nightmare is an understatement with the DPF

Cleaner diesel engines have significant problems with dpf and dual mass flywheels. Dif can be cleaned, but it's not cheap. Dual mass flywheels will need replaced before the engine is half worn.

For 10k/year get a petrol.

Diesel cars are on the way out because of the emissions problems. It's not the carbon dioxide, on which they might be a bit better. It's the nitrous oxide and the particulates (little flakes of soot). The DPF which is supposed to take care of this will fail a short time after the warranty expires.

They won't be banned but you will find the resale value falls like a stone.
