PFB due in July. I had chosen a cot but was reading on the Sleep thread about these and they look good.

Is it worth it / worth getting it more than a "normal" cot?

i havnt had one, but they do look v v lovely... and if it got them to sleep more, then great!

i think there may be a couple of different makes of this concept tho... may be worth researching thoroughly to make sure you get the 'best' one for you

good plan! Anyone else?

they are v expensive and no guarantee your child may like it (some are maddened by the bouncing, or like to have room to flail etc)

maybe borrow one, or buy one secondhand (with new mattress) in case it proves an expensive mistake?

NB there's one that looks much cooler than the Amby - the stand is a kind of spiral - but I cannot for he life of me think of the name of it.

MrsBadger · 29/03/2007 09:00

aha, the cooler-looking one is the Moffi

theprecious · 29/03/2007 10:42

oooooo! That is cool looking. Good point baout the money if lo hates it. Will keep an eye out on the sale board.

i thought it was worth every penny, tbh, dd loved hers. and i'd disagree with mrs b about the expensive mistake, they resell on ebay very well so you'd not lose more than £40-50 in the unlikely event that the baby didn't like it. also, i'd say that you are less likely to have problems if the baby is in there from day 1, as being suspended in a bag is a more familiar envirionment than a cot.
get one, they are faaaabulous. the moffi also looks great.

Recommended from here too.

And agree with the resale thing - it won't pick up much wear and tear, and they sell easily.

It does only last a year of course, whereas if you get a cotbed, that would see you through for longer.

i've just ordered one of these but hoping we won't have trouble settling DS2 in it as he is 10 weeks. He sleeps a lot in cradle position in sling so hoping it will feel very similar.

theprecious - do a search in past messages as there is quite a lot of comments about them

AitchTwoOh · 29/03/2007 11:00

true about the cot, adad, although the good thing for me was that by the time dd was finished with the hammock, i was more relaxed about PFBness so was happy to take a cot secondhand from a mum i'd met. result!

AitchTwoOh · 29/03/2007 11:04

i'm sure it will be fine, katierocket, ten weeks is still teeny. give your wee baby a kiss from me [broody].

katierocket · 29/03/2007 11:07

I hope so Aitch - am pretty desperate.
and you won't feel broody if you read this

AitchTwoOh · 29/03/2007 11:32

oh dear, you are having to be brave, aren't you? chin up...

i didn't read the whole thread, but i'm pleased that the baby likes to be rocked to sleep as that's something you can do with the hammock. don't bother swinging it to and fro, just place your hand onto the triangular hanger and bounce it up and down. we used to do this, surprisingly vigourously i must say, to get dd to sleep. she just couldn't resist the movement, so she'd go from yelling to settled then sleep in about 10 mins. she was mostly fine going in, by the way, so it generally took less time. oh it's a lovely, lovely thing the hammock. i cried when she moved out of it as i loved lying in bed with my hand in on her toes in the hammock.

katierocket · 29/03/2007 11:35

have to say that I am looking forward to getting it, he loves the sling which must be a similar feeling to the hammock.

theprecious · 29/03/2007 11:41

thank you all for the comments - it's really helpful, esp about the resale thing. LOL about AitchTwoOh's PFBness!

Good luck Katierocket with your LO sleeping - I will look out for an update once the hammock's arrived.

I have one and dd2 (5 weeks tomorrow) has been in it since birth and I'm still undecided tbh. At first she was a bit alarmed at the movement and actually preferred being flat and still. She's getting more used to it now and, admittedly, sleeps really well in it but I'm not sure how much of that is down to the hammock and how much is pure luck.

I also started a thread yesterday about my back, getting dd in and out kills my back, goodness knows how I'll get on when she's a big 6mo lump.
