Dressing up

Has anyone got any suggestions of where we can get a job lot of dressing up outfits for dd (2.8) who has just become obsessed with tutus/uniforms/hats....... The Effing Marvellouses/Jojomamanthingies of this world appear to be charging a small fortune for a single outfit. TIA

ELC do cheap hats. Grandmas usually have a closet full of rubbish, oops sorry I meant dressing up things..can you give them a try before you part with cash? I bought a 'Mary' outfit at Christmas time from the Big W's sale - DD still thinks that it is a Cinderella outfit as it's the same colour blue! Saved me a fortune!!

I think Ikea do dressing up clothes as well.

Net do really cute fairy outfits. I think they're about ten pounds.

I had the easiest dress up costume when we were kids! I was in a school play and i represented Mexico so my mam cut a hole out of a square peice of cloth (poncho) and i was done

This is not exactly cheap, but my dd got loads and loads of use out of it. She got it when she was 3 and is still wearing the stuff 3 years later (esp. the princess dress). I got a really good cheap princessy outfit from Tchibo last Christmas too, but they keep changing their stock.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 13/07/2004 17:21

Ta everyone - Tamum, that looks great - might splash out on one of each so dd has a non-sterreotyped choice of nurse or pirate. ELC keep e-mailing me about their half price sale, but none of the costumes are in stock, d'oh. Will also check out Asda and Ikea next time we're passing. Angeliz, you just brought back vivid memories of my childhood - all my friends had loads of Action Men and all the costumes and accessories (uniforms, scuba gear, tanks etc). I had one in a faded red jump suit. When I pestered for more gear for mine, Mum (who used to take in sewing) cut me a circle of fabric with a hole in the middle for his head - hey presto a deluxe poncho. No trousers, or undies even, just a poncho. I swear I'm not scarred by that, honest. Although I can't watch Clint Eastwood westerns without feeling sorry for my poor underdressed Action Man.

Amazon do a trunk with 3 outfits for girls for about 25 quid although I think they are for older girls than your DD.

We got some of DDs in Woolworths and Mothercare and places like that.

tamum · 13/07/2004 19:41

at the Action Man poncho! That trunk is the one I linked to Twinkie, I think it would be fine for a 2.8 YO, my dd got it for her third birthday. The costumes are "cut" so that they last ages, just get a bit shorter!
