Hey everyone
I am a young father and I am looking to start a baby clothing website.
I wanted to find out from other parents what do they look for in baby clothes or when they go to shop on a baby clothes and accessories website ?
Material? Cost ? etc
Also what would you say would improve your experience while baby clothes shopping ?
I appreciate any feedback
Thank you

Have to agree with nearly everyone else

Bright colours that are generally non gendered e.g stripes and spots in primary colours

Poppers down the front not only between the legs

No fiddly buttons

Elastic and poppers wherever possible

Footless babygrows.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 10/07/2017 12:52

Gender neutral and lots of bright colours, adjustable waistbands, no fiddily buttons, envelope style openings so heads don't get squished, machine washable and suitable for tumble driers...that's all I can think of for now!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/07/2017 12:56

Boys clothes that AREN'T blue, stripey or with vehicles on.

Zip-up babygrows

Bold colours

Comfortable

Large fit or normal as opposed to on the small side - so frustrating when things come up small!

HereBeFuckery · 10/07/2017 13:12

Ooh, an idea on poppers (I used to mess them up too, so often), why not colour coordinate them - different colours for each popper & fastening bit so you can match them together more easily? Sleepsuits above about 3-6 months seem to have around 2000 poppers so this would be really helpful! And, AFAIK, no one does this.

MeltorPeltor · 10/07/2017 13:16

100% cotton that doesn't shrink.
Bold colours
I WISH someone would invent newborn clothes with velcro instead of poppers because I got sick to death of doing poppers and for the first few months velcro would suffice.
Clothes around weaning age in darker colours to hide staining
No bulk waistbands for podgy little babies learning to sit

MeltorPeltor · 10/07/2017 13:17

Yes, adjustable waistbands for older children. DS is nearly 3 and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to get trousers to fit him and his tiny hips.

sophie150 · 10/07/2017 13:23

Please put as much effort into the boys clothes as you do the girls. We never shop in physical shops for my lb as the boys clothes seem to be an after thought and only given 1/3 of the space! Too many logos and slogans.
We have had some really lovely stuff from h and m and Zara online - lots of really lovely leggings for boys which are really comfy as they are starting to move around.
As pp have said durability is less important until they get to 18 months or so as they get through the clothes so quickly!

Troika · 10/07/2017 13:24

Cotton.
No big hard embroidered patch things
No rigid waistbands
No slogans
No character clothing
No buttons on the back of the neck
I also dislike hoods for tiny babies.
And it needs to be quite cheap too Grin

Would anyone be interested in some free samples ?

Breathable, comfortable fabrics.

Easy to wash.

Nice colours as others have said - bright, contrast-y, love stripes.

Non-iron, lol. No transfers.
Comfort above "style" (I hate baby denim jeans with elasticated waist).
I have to say I generally spend more per item on gift clothing for someone else's baby than I did on my own kids.
And I do like a bandana on an (older) dribbly baby/young toddler rather than a bib. I used to use colourful patterned big cotton hankies, folded into a triangle and knotted loosely at the back. They wash well and just get softer and softer!

I'd be, if they were in the smaller sizes (to six months). Just be careful, I can't remember what MN policy is on this but it may sail close to advertising.

Mylittlepumpkin23 · 10/07/2017 13:41

Okay ill avoid it on here, Just wanted to know what parents want from their baby stores and anything that they wished they sold

Hi there

I'm currently expecting my first baby and the amount of stuff available is mind boggling.

What would be amazingly helpful would be some sort of affordable bundle, maybe for different ages. So, newborn starter bundle, perhaps with everything you need to bring baby home and for the first few months.

Then maybe a winter/summer bundle including outdoor wear. This kind of thing would make my life so much easier, and if a bundle would save me a bit of money over buying everything separately then that would be ideal!

Smile
NewMumSoon · 10/07/2017 13:42

P.s. If these kind of bundles already exist and someone could point me in the right direction I would be forever grateful!

Mylittlepumpkin23 · 10/07/2017 13:49

congratulations on your expecting your first baby

I am looking to do that but im just making sure everything is 100% perfect

Thank you :)

Great, I'll keep any eye on this thread - it's a useful subject!

EssentialHummus · 10/07/2017 16:13

newmum check out "finnish baby boxes". The companies that have tried to replicate this in the UK seem to charge a packet, but it'll give you some idea of what goes in the bundle.

GinIsIn · 10/07/2017 16:21

Definitely more fun and bright gender neutral clothes. No buttons. Doesn't bobble when washed. The ones from M&S and John Lewis that have different coloured poppers to help you snap the poppers in the right order is great.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/07/2017 16:30

Just do one thing well, ie HereBeFuckery's amazing colour co-ordinated poppers idea, and you'll be set! Seen so many people try and do Everything, and utterly fail.

Mylittlepumpkin23 · 10/07/2017 16:33

Thank you so much !

I want to be able to help parents our with good clothing that will hopefully suit everyone.

What is everyones preference online ? Mothercare etc

On line I like Toby Tiger (lots of really bright bold colours)and I used to like Pumpkin Patch but I don't think they're still operating. I tend to go for more expensive clothes (maybe special occasion clothes or gifts)on line. T shirts for every day/pre school and leggings for toddler groups I just pick up at the supermarket.

InDubiousBattle · 10/07/2017 16:41

I also like Funky Giraffe online for bibs.

BikeRunSki · 10/07/2017 16:45

Natural fibres
Machine washable
Bright, gender neutral colours
Gender neutral patterns

BikeRunSki · 10/07/2017 16:58

My youngest is 5 now, but brands I liked, in sales, were:

Toby Tiger
Molo
Bob and Blossom
Frugi

On the high street
Some bits from John Lewis
Little Bird at Mothercare
H&M
Some bits from Boots

Also, Boden, but its ubiquitous and not really cost effective in smaller sizes.

BikeRunSki · 10/07/2017 17:02

I've also recently discovered Little Chumbers. Too small for my DC, but I love the prints/fabrics they use and have my eye on them for new baby presents.
