Where's the cheapest place to buy Lego?

It is my dd1's 5th birthday next Sat and I have been looking for something to get her. I think she would love Lego but the prices seem so expensive. Does anyone know where we can get a starters kit with all different types of blocks, trees, windows, roofs etc.

Does it absolutely have to be new?

If not - my dh's first foray into ebay bought us a £20 job-lot of all kinds of Lego, which he put through the dishwasher (!) and sorted into types - finding out that a lot of it was highly sought-after rare technical bits, which he then organised into the right sort of batches & sold (on ebay again) individually - making £200!

(Just to be clear - we kept all the basic stuff - so it was lots of basic Lego + £180 profit.)

try mailorderexpress for new stuff

really Bink - we have a massive box of Lego up in the loft which my brotehr passed onto me it was ours when we were younger - basically it's lots and lots of 'sets' all jumbled in together in one big box - and I think (although I'd have to check) that there are instructions for lots of the models in there too.............

Woolworths and John Lewis had big value boxes of varied bricks etc around Christmas.

absolutely, fanny - it's kind of satisfying to sort out, too, if you've got a bit of time & space. Have a look at what people are specially looking for.

Though don't you want it for your own boys?

The other thing that goes for masses if you've got any from childhood is PlayPlax - perspex squares and cylinders in beautiful translucent colours with slots so that you can join them together to build things. Not made any more because I think the perspex can break with sharpish edges, so doesn't reach current toy safety standards. But I'll buy any I can find!!

some here and on Amazon

Argos often have the big boxes on offer, quite often half price.

Bink - tbh I can't be ar*ed sorting it all out for the boys - and neither of the 2 I currently have are 'into' Lego.......if they do get into it later I'll just buy it new .....I just want the money "now" LOL.
