In our house we think they are fab

littlemissbossy · 11/07/2004 11:24

yes Ghosty I asked this question last week and all the responses were yes they're great! bought one for ds, aged 4, bundle recommended argos because they were on special offer. You get a sample book with the leappad and I bought two extra from ELC, alphabet and finding nemo - ds, who has previously shown no real interest in learning anything is on it every day, he loves it!

lonelymumof3 · 11/07/2004 11:26

ds and dd have one each. dd has the pink one!! she isnt even 3 yet but she loves hers. ds hates reading from normal books as he is more of a 'hands on' person anyway, so this has been great for him. I would really recommend them

Ghosty · 11/07/2004 11:38

This sounds good ... thanks everyone ...
I didn't know that you had asked last week LMB ... I should have done a search ..
I know DS will love it ... his birthday isn't until November but they are on special offer at the moment so I think I will buy it now.
Any negatives before I go and abuse my credit card??

foxinsocks · 11/07/2004 12:43

also £24.99 at Toysrus

nikcola · 11/07/2004 12:44

oh thank you.

foxinsocks · 11/07/2004 12:48

only know this as I'm searching for presents for dd and all her mates (who seem to all have birthdays in July and August!). She really wants the Cat in the Hat leappad book!

foxinsocks · 11/07/2004 12:50

oh and Ghosty, mine love it (as I think I posted on the other thread!). If your ds is into dinosaurs etc. you can get some great science leappad books (one of which I think is dinosaurs but we don't have that one) as well as all the story type ones.

nikcola · 11/07/2004 12:53

is dd too young for iot she will be 3 in november i was going to get her one for her b day

Twinkie · 11/07/2004 12:55

They are tghe bestest thing ever - DD loves hers but I wish she would use some of the other books rather than the f*ing princess one!!

foxinsocks · 11/07/2004 12:56

my only negative is that the pen breaks very easily (especially if you have younger children who tend not to be so careful with it). The books are also not very sturdy. I imagine at age 5 he will be completely fine in handling it but my ds (2) managed to break the first one we had by dragging it round by the pen and slamming the pen shut in the case so many times that it stopped working. SO, I don't think they are as sturdy as they could be and if you have younger ones, you'll need to have a word with them about using it. (sorry to over post on this thread!!)

lonelymumof3 · 11/07/2004 13:19

there are more sturdy leap pads for younger children. TBH when the pen broke on mine, I rang them and they sent me another one for free anyway. Very good customer service.

woodpops · 11/07/2004 14:12

I've also been looking into buying ds one of these. He'll be 3 in August amd I best to get my 1st leappad which is from 3yrs or just get the normal leapad that's from 4yrs????

foxinsocks · 11/07/2004 15:09

wow, that's good lonelymum! I had to fork out for a new one as it was older than 3 months (or something like that). I've seen the leappad for younger ones but what I really meant is that you have to keep an eye on younger sibs. My dd (4 in August) is certainly old enough to handle it properly, it's just when ds gets his hands on it when we're not looking!!

Woodpops, dd got hers last year (normal leappad) for her 3rd birthday and loved it from the start. We had to help her a little bit to begin with but after a day or so, she had completely got the hang of it. HTH.

Ghosty · 12/07/2004 01:59

Thanks all ...
Am off to buy it now ...
Nikcola ... they are on offer in Auckland, NZ ... You can come and stay over if you want to come all this way to get a LeapPad !!!
$79.99 (about 25 quid ... ) still expensive for us poor NZers but worth it I think!

My mum has just brought my ds one for his birthday in August. Yay. Even better though, I went into the shop at work on my dinner and there were loads of books reduced to £6 from £12 Bargain!!!!!

littlemissbossy · 12/07/2004 17:20

Woodpops, which shop was that?

woodpops · 12/07/2004 19:33

Sorry it was a staff shop. I work for Boots and we have a staff shop on site full of bargains. Trouble is I think I spend ALL of my wages in there. It's like santa's grotto. Most days when I go home dh says 'what have you brought now?'. Who can resist a bargain???

littlemissbossy · 12/07/2004 19:42
Grin
woodpops · 12/07/2004 23:41

£6 and I got discount off of that. Bonkers really. But I'm not complaining!!!
