Bloody VW emissions fix and now DPF kaput

I let them do the software fix for the emissions a month ago when i had VW Touran serviced. Boy do I regret that.

The next week the diesel particle filter warnin light came on for the first time ever (had car three years). Then next day engine warning came on. AA came and ran diagnostics, fixed it by forcing a regeneration on the filter. Told me to run it on motorway in fourth gear and get revs up past 3krpm for half an hour.

Did that and its happened again and now the bastard DPF won't regenerate (had AA out again).

I just know I'm now in for a battle and a possible £1600 bill for new filter. I also now know this is a known thing and the software fix increases soot by double - hence my problem.

Here's the link www.hypermiler.co.uk/dieselgate/dieselgate-how-the-emissions-fix-will-affect-your-dpf-diesel-particulate-filter-in-your-vw-audi-skoda-seat

Heads up VW drivers and don't have the software update!!

I'm a city driver and this is now a totally unsuitable vehicle - I hardly ever go on motorways.

I'm never having a diesel again.

you should never have been sold a car with a DPF if you don't go on the motorway much!!! Fiat were buggers for mis-selling them to customers who wouldn't regenerate them.

There are many many garages out there that will delete the DPF software from your car you will also need the DPF removed. It won't cost as near as much as the £1600 bill

Eek I feel for you facing a bill like that, but I wonder if a diesel is the right option for city driving? My understanding is that diesels need at least one long drive per fortnight at speeds of 40mph plus to keep the filter clean.

Not suitable! I know this now. At the time diesel was supposed to be greener! Ha!

Anyone think of a car that fits five adults and older kids and luggage? And suitable for city.....

Thinking I need two cars or to rent when doing motorways

Honestly even a little petrol car is fine on occasional motorway trips. You might have to work the gears more to change lanes.
If they "sold" you the dpf diesel you might be able to throw a wobbly and get a decent deal on a petrol swap.
I've never had much luck with vw customer care even when the garage ripped me off

I would not spend any money on the current car. I'd go back to the vw dealership you bought it from and ask for a very good part exchange deal for a new petrol touran (the new model is a lot better).

Sympathise massively, I've a diesel zafira and it's a nightmare..spent most of my money on it so far..not good. I've fought with Vauxhall for not telling me it had a DPF..9 months on they don't care..good luck
