I need to buy a laptop PC for work out of office. Don't know where to start - and have never used one either. Anyone with any advice? What to look for/avoid. Will need Office and internet. Also needs to be good value as it is out of my own pocket.

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 1505. Had it about 6 months and it's fine. Very quiet possible only downside is the battery life is a bit short (or I spend too long on it lol). It has a Duo processor which I think supposed to make it a bit faster.

Ds1 has an Acer, quite a bit heavier than this but feels more durable somehow. His is definitely slower than mine.

Most laptops don't come with Office, they generally have Microsoft Works.
