Help! Old Priori car seat dilemma - opinions needed

We have a Maxi-Cosi Priori car seat bought for DD1 when they first came out in 1998. We used it for both our DDs then stashed it in the loft. Now I'm wondering whether to use it for DS. I've inspected it, noticed that the straps are worn in places so found out that I can order replacement straps from Maxi-Cosi for about £25.

It's in good condition, never been in an accident, and Maxi-Cosi say it meets current safety requirements. But would you use it (with new straps), in the knowledge that there are probably safer ones out there, but which cost a small fortune?

yes i would. if it meets current safety requirements then it is up to the job.

you're not going to buy a new car because there are safer ones out there? there's no difference imo.

Good point amidaiwish, I'm just being neurotic

Loopymumsy - yes they do still sell them, just not exactly the same, as ours was the first version with less deep side protection wing thingies.

It's still a great seat though, and DH thinks I'm mad for even considering buying a new one. I'll be ordering the new straps this week I think...

Thanks

Well, were using our one of that vintage. It was my nephew's, then my niece's and now my DS's - and I know my sister looked after it. I have bought a new cover for it as that had worn out, but apart from that it is fine. I checked out that it was safe to use and the In Car Safety Centre in Milton Keynes said it was fine.

Or even we're !

That's reassuring PigeonPie, thank you

The Priori is still highly rated for safety - there was only one belt in seat that did better in the latest which? tests. So I would be quite confident to reuse it.

I agree that it is still one of the safest seats avaliable, and with new belts so that they arent worn i would definitley use it again fo another child!

Thanks Suzi2 and NannyL, feeling much better about it now. Will be ordering new straps this week.

Thanks all
